The various engines. No photo of the 22R yet. Top left is a 1.8L single overhead cam engine released in Australia for the TA22 car. Top right is an RG-18, it looks very similar to the RGU-18. The only way tell the difference maybe is to find the Yammaha print on the RGU-18 head; also the RG-18 carried smaller carbs? Both engines were 2.0L duel overhead cam and were the engines for Australian and Japanese market. The average stock power figure for the RGU-18 is 98Kw / 130hp at the rear wheels, I'm uncertain of the figure for the RG-18. On the bottom left is the 20R engine, for release into the American market for the fastbacks and GT models. I believe its a 2.2L pushrod engine and from what i have learnt its average stock power is 90-95hp and i assume thats at the rear wheels. Bottom right is a worked celica engine, im unsure whether its an RG-18 or RGU-18, either way its naturaly aspirated and the claimed power is 300hp, I'm uncertain if thats at the fly or the rear wheels?
The difference between them all. (haven't got pics of the fastbacks up yet, or this 'other' GT of which there are apparently 8 or less in Australia and are worth up to $80,000AU (claimed))
Above Left Shows the fine difference between the two rear wheel arches for the TA22 (1.8L orange) and the RA23 (2.0L red), The RA23 seems to have more aggressive arches. Above Right An American Stock GT Celica with the style of bumpers released for the American market, due to regulations i believe. Below Left This is the style of bumper released on the Australian market and probably the Japanese market too. The orange vehicle shows the configuration for the TA22 1.8L model front, note that it has indicators where the RA23 2.0L model (the white/grey car) has 'parking lights' and as a result the TA22 has its 'parking lights' down below the bumper where the RA23 has an extra set of indicators to go with the ones on the front gaurds/fenders. This is also visible in the picture. Also in the photo on the bottom right one can see the front spoiler clearance is different for the two models TA22 and RA23, the RA23 has the lower more 'aggressive' styling.
This image Left shows the difference between the TA22 and RA23 heat vents on the bonnet, also one may note that the TA22 model lacks the bump the RA23 has. I believe i have seen another types of heat vents on the TA22 styled bonnet in American and maybe Australia also.
