18r-guru - You're right about alot of that info.-I thought one of my wrecks was a 1.8L single cam? Also a 1.8L n/a was entered into the Classic Adelaide rally on more then one occasion I spoke to the driver, he said his was 1.8L.-My 18R-GU had 48mm side draft solex and so does my mates; neither of ours had any emissions control equipment, not sure what the go is there. But many people say that the 'U' stands for emissions control. There is much info on wiki under searches for "toyota t engine", "toyota r engine", and "1st gen celica" with few/no citations; but it does show the variety of engines to some degree.

Hi,Nice car, but some of your information regarding the engines and Celica models is incorrect. There is no such thing as an RG-18... I think you mean 18R-G. The 18R-G was first used in 1973 and it generated 145hp at the fly wheel. The 18R-GR came very shortly afterwards and used an air-pump and slightly different carbies (both for air pollution control) and it generated 140hp at the fly wheel. The 18R-GU was next and it had lower compression and more pollution gear on it and it generated 120hp at the fly. The final version was the EFI 18R-GUE and it developed 130hp at the fly. The HP you stated for the 20R was at the fly... not at the wheels. The 18R-G, in all versions, were more powerful than the 20R and the 22R engines. All carbie versions of the 18R-G used 40mm Solex side-draughts, though they had different pollution control on them. Also, there was no 1.8litre engine in any of the early gen Celicas. Actually, I think only the final generation of Celica had a 1.8 litre engine. The 70-77 Celica models used the T engine (1.6litres) or the R engine (2.0 litres). The T engine of 1.4litres was used in the ET TA22 Celica, 2T of 1.6litres was used in the LT TA22, the 2T-B of 1.6litres and twin down-draught carbs was used in the ST TA22, and the 2T-G 1.6litres DOHC dual Solex was used in the GT/GTV TA22.Yamaha designed/built the heads for the 2T-G and 18R-G engines. Some heads are stamped Yamaha and some are stamped Toyota, but the heads are the same. The RA23 did not have extra indicators. It had its front indicators in the front bumper, while the TA22 had them under the bumper. Same number of indicators between the two models, but a slightly different placement.I assume the rare liftbacks you mention are the JDM TA27/RA25 models. Yes, they are rare and a good condition TA27GT (1.6litres 2T-G) or RA25GT (2.0litres 18R-G) would set you back a few dollars, but sadly not $80k. If so, Id probably sell mine! ?Bonnet vents differed between the ET/LT/ST/GT/GTV models for the TA22, but the RA23/28 did not vary its bonnet vents between the different models.I am not sure why your car weighs 1000kg... as the TA22 weighs in at 940kg.. unless the mods you have done have added 60kg. The 18R-G is not 60kgs heavier than the 2T engine it replaced, so maybe the other mods you have done have added the extra weight?
