FIERO VALVE COVERS
************************************************************************************************************************
Well there really are no aftermarket valve cover for the 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4 engines. Well unless you simply want a stamped steel valve cover that is chromed... Plus the stamped steel is apt to leak and get bent once its taken off and installed a few times! Easy to overtighten if you sone use the load spreaders. I also wanted to run 1.6 rockers, which I have heard there are clearance issues with the stock covers!
Then to top it off I wanted more then just some blah chrome bolt on part, I wanted more personality in my bay. Then one day in a junkyard, look what I saw...

This is a 2.8L Fiero engine bay. This is the stock 2.8L plenum and valve covers. Now the plenum will not work. It is actually backwards for a F-body. Though it sucks cause it has a better flowing throttle body and plenum...
So I snagged them...Then I found out they are the covers to have if you want to run 1.6 rockers! So a performace function and good looks! PLus being aluminum I can polish the runners to a high shine!

PREPARATIONS
****************************************
First they had to be stripped down to the metal. They are actually Aluminum as well. I used Aircraft stripper to get thru the orangey red powder coating. It took some work, but I got it done. What was left had to be sanded smooth.
The raised runners were a pain to get polished. GM had them grooved and they went way down. Joe DAed them down smooth the first time, but we were still dissatified with the way the polish lasted. So when it was time for the 2006 makeover I DAed them again. First with 1200, then with 2000.

Then it was time to use compound on a buffing wheel. That brought them back up like everything else we polished in the bay...
Then it was time to clean and prep the covers. I washed them with degreaser to clean out the old oil...this took forever. Then it was on to the dish soap bath and a final wipe with paint prep.
Then I had to tape off the runners so they would not get paint on them. See I wanted them to stay shiny. Took forever, but I got it done!
Then time to be painted Candy Apple red...
Basing...

Cleared...

Tape off and polished back up...

Now they were zoop sealed and installed...
