RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdCOOLFLEX

The CoolFlex is pricey, but a great improvement...
comes in red, purple, blue, gold, chrome...maybe a few more colors...

Its basically a transparent powder coating over a semi flexible tube.

I say semi, because if you bend it off the car it does not stay in the shape you bend it. It requires tension to hold its shape!

Here it is getting installed

Here is the lower hose at the radiator

It's hard to see down there I know!

Here you can see a good shot of the end going to the water pump...

PROBLEMS
****************************************

Overall I love the look. The install however is not as simple as it should be. The hose ends are a one size fits all proposition. For the smaller then average hose neck, you have to double up hoses. To get the hoses to sit tight w/o leaks, the hose peices that fit inside one another have to be a tight fit, then the assembly a tight fit on the neck of the item. Of course, its hard enough to get a regular hose to expand enough to slip all the way on the neck, try it double thick. Stuff slips and won't go on all the way. You think its on then it pops off or leaks. The bottom hose popped off on me while driving. It had been installed for over a year with no leaks. Go figure. Now try to fix the lower radiator hose on the side of the road on a lowered car! Turns out 90% of the problem was the hose covers. They did not expand enough to slip the rubber couplers on securely!
