RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird2006: ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAKEOVER: BATTERY RELOCATION: WIRING THE BATTERY & RUNNING TO THE STARTER
************************************************************************************************************************

**************************************************
Wiring into the car to the battery
**************************************************
Battery in the box.... with the 2 cables to the battery...

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Here is the new power cable... Sitting a bit ackward with the high box lip...

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

We had to notch the box to get the cable to sit low enough for the box top to go on!

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Now the cable sits much better.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

PLus, there is less stress on the connection!

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Same done to the negative cable

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Now the top finally goes on!

**************************************************
Wiring under the car to the starter
**************************************************

Here you can see the 2 cables exiting the body from the battery. The ground cable attached to the body with a key for battery cut off. The power cable turns and runs to the front of the car.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Here is the power cabel as its making its way up the body into the rear passenger fender well.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Now you can see it in the fender well...

Here as it starts to turn and go down to run along the rockers
RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdRedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird
We decided to tuck it in next to the subframe connector for protection...
RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdRedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird
As it makes the turn with the subframe connectors arm that goes under the catalytic convertor
RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdRedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird
It travels down this arm and then runs across the frame rail to tuck in to next to the tranny and run up the frame rail to the location of the remote starter.

We decided to set the car up with a remote starter (distribution hub) for all the power lines coming in. get them away from the headers that had been chargrilling them over the years.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Here I have marked the 2 cables... the one on the right is the the power off the battery... the one on the left is the one going to the car's starter.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Here we follow the length running to the factory starter

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

This really makes things cleaner!

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Still have a few goodies to wire in, like a power cable running across the tranny tunnel over to a power dist block for some misc power lines on the driver's side!

Hey sweet FIREBIRD! I like how you cleaned it up and relocated everything. If you see any cheap one's for sale you should send me a message. I'm looking for one to redue. If you get a chance look at my jimmy i rebuilt. Later
