RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird2006: ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAKEOVER: BATTERY RELOCATION: NEW LOCATION & MOUNTING
************************************************************************************************************************
Well this mod was decided on not only for looks, but for weight distubution to the rear!

The Optima red top...

The nasty old battery tray...

New Location & Mounting

So here was the new battery box...

First we had to come up with a good place to install the battery. Due to space constraints, the spare tire compartment became the host. The box fit perfect, as did the tray to bolt the box to...

Now we just had to hard mount it to the car... so we drill some holes thru the tray into the sheetmetal of the car...

Then it was simply a matter of using the included hardware to mount the box to the tray...

Basically we used the long metal rods with an "U" shaped end. The "U" shaped end was inserted into a hole we made in the tray and then the threaded rod end was run thru a corresponding hole we made in the boxes handle.

The kit included wing nuts, but in our case the tollerances were too close and we instead had to go with some regular nuts! Once this was done, we were able to attach the 2 together solidly! You can see both mounting points in this pic!

Wiring into the car

Now we had to figure out how we were going to be running the cable into the car...
Well here was a factory plug ready to be plucked out! LOL!
