This is a picture of what my 1965 GT, K-code, Mustang Fastback looked like when I purchased it in December, 2002. The first question everyone wants to know is: "Is it a real GT?" The build date is certainly valid: 15 May 1965, and it has foglights, dual exhaust, disc brakes, bigger sway bar, and the correct interior parts. (A lot of this stuff is part of the K-code package as well!) When combined with the following additional information. . .I'd pretty well bet on this car as being a factory GT!
FOGLIGHTS

The left picture shows where my fog light switch was located. (I have researched dozens of 65 Mustangs that have the switch loccated under the dash as opposed to up higher in later cars! So don't let anyone tell you different!) One sign of originality is to look for the "D-shaped" hole with the punched lip on the back)
When combined with the other punched holes of the fog lights you can at least be assured that the car came from the factory with foglights. (Supposedly, in 65 the lights were attached to the grill by this bolt. . . .something not found on later models or reproductions!)
DUAL EXHAUST

I know. . easy to fake. . . . .
. . but the correct support brackets under the rear seat take away a lot of doubt!
INTERIOR

NICE FLOORS!
Notice the flat surface and the "mustach" lip around the inside top of the edge of the glovebox. (The right hand picture shows where I found the original FOMOCO part numbers!)
In 65 the five gauge cluster was unique to the GT, again notice the "mustach"! Some say the "cut out" under the guages is one way to tell if they are factory original. (See right hand picture.)
DISC BRAKES
Original Kelsy Hayes brakes, plumbing and proportioner valve. . .
STEERING
. . . the correct 16:1 steering box and beefier sway bar all say GT!!
