detroadster's 1968 Datsun Roadster

Exterior - Well, here it is. My 1968 Datsun 2000 roadster. This is pretty much what it looked like when I bought it back in 2002. The body and paint work were already done which was good because I can't do body work to save my life! Chrome was all re-done by the previous owner. I added the rollbar and had it and the wheels powder coated to match.

Front End View - The car was frightening to drive at night when I first bought it. The headlamps were so dim, it was hard to tell they were even on sometimes! A switch to a set of Hella H4s and some 100W driving lights cured that little problem. Notice the engine oil cooler tucked behind the driving lights. It's actually a transmission oil cooler for a Freightliner Truck. With so little room under the hood for a radiator, this oil cooler is a big help on hot days!

I used to have a nice running 1600 rdstr. but I sold it to a kid that belonged to a VW club. He was impressed and I had many regrets for selling it. I have two more datsun rdstrs. but they need work. The one I'm working on now is a 2000. I got it started but won't stay running. After seeing your car engine my jaw dropped. How do I go about putting an sr20det in car and how much would it cost.

This is truly and amazing car. You have given me a new project idea. I've been looking for another car to mod and I really love old cars. please e-mail me. rouge76@gmail.com. I would like to know what kind of suspension you used.

Nice. Wonder what it did for speed. I owned a 1969 Datsun 2000. By crimping off the airpump lines to the exhaust manifold all the air was sent to the intake like a super charger. Set carbs rich, set timing to 16 degrees fast and the engine did not peak. I chickened at 7800 RPM, the speedometer pegged at 7000 RPM in 4th and lifted the front wheels when shifting to 5th. My next car was a 911 over in Europe and it was slow above 100mph compared to my 2000. I miss my 2000.
