This is an introduction to my 1965 Plymouth Fury III 4 door Sedan. It was in its all original state when I acquired it, equipped with a Commando 383 V8 and a 2 barrel Carter Carb. It is an automatic 4 speed transmission with a column shifter.

I bought it for 300 dollars from a good friend of mine. His great grandmother had bought the car off of the lot and it was passed down in the family to his grandfather. He had recently passed away so I bought the car off of his grandson (my good friend).

Here it is after I got it started and pulled it out of his driveway to hose it off. All it needed was a battery and some new points, and it started right up. It smoked like hell until it got rid of most of the old gas, and stayed in 2nd gear until I filled it with tranny fluid. Then it ran great.

Here it is after I had scrubbed it and drove it home (it had alot of discoloration that was scrubbed off)

When I said all original I meant it. It had every piece of trim, all four hubcaps, the original rims, tires, everything. I'm betting even the wiper blades were original since they were so non-exsistant. It doesn't have a dent down the whole thing, although it has a couple minor dings (nothing even as big as a dime) on the grill.

It was an east coast car for the first half of it's life so it has alot of rust underneath even though most of it isn't bad at all and could probably be powerwashed away. Except for the cancer under each door where rainwater runs down and sat it doesn't have any visible rot.

Here's 2 pictures of the worst spot... Under the rear door on the passenger side.

It only has 50,000 original miles on the original motor so it's perfect for rebuilding

Has ALL of the emblems and trim inside AND out and still has the numbers on the fenderwell in the engine compartment 65fury's 1965 Plymouth Gran Fury65fury's 1965 Plymouth Gran Fury

It has two nice sized rips on the front seat but the dash is damn near flawless and everything works fine. Even the radio works although you can't really get a station. The back edge of the back seat is deteriorated from sun damage because it sat in the same spot for so many years. That was the only place the sun really got through though. Other than that the interior and dash is exceptional 65fury's 1965 Plymouth Gran Fury65fury's 1965 Plymouth Gran Fury

I plan on getting:

- A new Camshaft (purple mopar performance cam? lobes and lift specs?)
- An Electronic Ignition System (Brand?)
- 4 Wheel Disc Brake Conversion
- 4 Barrel Edelbrock Intake Manifold (Good size?)
- 4 Barrel Edelbrock Carb. (Good size?)
- Water & Fuel Pumps (Any high capacity pumps I should know about for either?)
- Positraction Rear End (Advice on ratios?)
- New Suspension (Should I just get new shocks or switch to a different setup?)

Let's see. First LittleShy is correct, get the four barrel for some reason I could never get the four gets better milage (if you can control your foot that is!). As for the other stuff well an overdrive transmission is always a good idea. So would a "gas saver" rear gear something in the 2.73-3.27 to one ratio with the mmodern OD trans should get you good mileage as well as save on tire replacement, tickets, and damaged rear end parts. As for the engine stuff you're on your own cause the Dodge 383 is one I've never touched, but, some tricks work on all engines. Balanceing, Blueprinting, Porting and Polishing should get you about 50hp (if Hot Rod mag is right anyhow) Now some people think 50hp is nothing but, you step on the gas and you'll feel it for sure. Headers, a 3" exhaust, good mufflers, and an "Open Air Filter" will get you a few ponies too. Best of luck, let me know how it goes. Later

if u get a new carb get the 4-barrel...i have a 77 fury sport with the 360 i've been playing with and it has the 2-barrel sux gas...if you can afford it the best thing towards performance for an old engine in my opinion is port-n-polish job along with a blue-print-n-balance....works wonders make a 305 chevy run like a scalded dog....my 03 sentra is on my page when i get the fury painted it'll be up

Welcome to cardomain! Nice classic man, interior looks great! yup, those corners are always the first to rust out, but with a paint job and rust removal that thing will be rockin (rated you up!) classics are the best man, you can check out my '66 pontiac if you want PEace
