darandeyoe's 1978 Chevrolet Malibu

I bought this car in 93 when I was stationed at the Fallon Naval Air Station in Nevada, just before I transfered to the USS Jarrett in Long Beach, CA. I've had to do alot of work to it over the years, the guy I bought it from and his brother(I think he said) took the car apart, painted it and put it back together. However when they did there was screws and bolts missing everywhere. Where there was 10 screws they put in 2. I've fixed that problem most everywhere.
It has a 305 with a 280 cam, headers, glass packs, an edlebrock 600 carb, etc... The rims I bought in California. He sold me the car with stock 14" rims and tires, he kept the ones he had on it. I can't remember what they even where it's been too many years. Anyway, they are cheap American Racing whatever. I wanted to put moons on it but the didn't have any in Southern Cal. when I was buying. So I settled for these.

I've got air shocks on the back. The rearend has 2.56 gears in it, I never changed them. Great highway car, very fast at top end. I don't know how fast cause the speedo only goes to 110 or whatever? believe me it goes way past that. The interior is all black. The bench seat was long gone by the time I got it, buckets. I took the colum shift off and put a Hurst V-Matic on the floorboard.

Sold this car in 2004 and got an 04 Monte Carlo. Stock LS nothing special, except for the 20" rims. But it does get 30 to 32 mpg on the highway, which is about 4 times better than the Malibu. I love it, I wish I could have kept the Malibu but gas is just too expensive.

Great car! Good pics too. Nice view there where you live. Glad you replaced all the missing bolts! Can't have the car flexing like tin foil around corners! Hey, I like the rims even if they are "cheapies". But around here (northwest Indiana/blahville) those corrode badly, as does everything 'cause of the snow and salt. Again, good job on car and page! (See mine if ya wanna) Later!

Great car, it's definately a classic!!! If you get a chance, stop by and see my Cutlass Supreme page. I have a "museum" section there that's dedicated to classic GM iron there.
