1991 Trans Am Convertible

im_iansane's 1991 Pontiac Trans Am

The short and sweet of things. I own a 91 Trans Am. I've got lots of ideas that I want to do. I've seen a few 3rdgens (82-92 f-body) with LSx's in them and that got the idea ball rolling. What about a full driveline from a c5/c6 vette? Torque tube/trans axle/IRS, etc. For now it's just getting a 5.3 out of a new Silverado truck with and Corvette LS6 intake manifold and Longtube headers from Stainless Works. Then we'll see what it gets after that is in. Maybe turbo. Maybe cam/heads. Who knows. I just want more power.

Stock the car came with a 700r4 4 speed automatic transmission. I swapped that out for a 6-speed manual from a 94 Trans Am. This was SO worth it. Best mod I've done. The rear axle came from a 97 SS camaro along with the rear disc brakes. (w/ cross drilled/slotted rotors and EBC pads). Front brakes are C6 Z06 binders. Six pot calipers and 14" rotors. Now I'm looking at the new ZR1's actual brembos and not these PBR imitations. 12 brake pads for two wheels? No thanks. The calipers themselves are fairly cheap at around $500 right now but the 15.5" carbon ceramic rotors are what kill you. $1600 retail. Wow.

really nice, love the wheels 5 stars! We are hoping to do the transmission swap also, I just have a really soft spot for the 91-92 firebird/ta's but especially the convertibles, you don't see to many. It's funny how people don't know what it is, they often think it's a corvette. Do you get that alot?
