Here are some old pics from Japan I took of the first prototype Honda CRF450 4-stroke to appear in public. It was ridden by Sebastian Tortelli. Honda tried hard to hide the prototype motor with blankets and a pop-up tent, but I reached up under the tent and snapped this engine shot.
The mud was 1-1.5 feet thick the day before the race and the rear fender snapped off on Tortelli.
Some more shots. My son walked in front of Tortelli as he rode back to the pits and he stalled the bike. He kicked and kicked and it backfired a few times, but had great trouble getting the motor to start again.. which was a bit embarassing.
This is a prototype CR250 2-stroke that never went into production with the old piston port motor in a newer generation aluminum frame.
