1967 Ford Fairlane 500XL
If you take a peek under the hood you'll find the sporty 289 "Challenger" V8 topped with a reliable Autolite 2100 carb. Just as a cruiser should, power is delivered to the rear end through a smooth shifting C4 cruise-o-matic transmission. The only power feature is power steering. My Fairlane is stopped by non-powered drum brakes all around, though it does have the dual master cylinder which was new for '67 in the Fairlanes.
Here is my Fairlane in front of the Ford of Canada Headquarters in Oakville Ontario. My mom and dad went with me to the Ford Centennial Celebration in Oakville in August of 2004. It was about a 3 hour drive but the Fairlane easily cruised at 75mph without any trouble.
Just me with my Fairlane at the Ford Centennial. The 15" rims and hub caps are not correct for the 500XL. The previous owner switched to the painted rims and installed "Fairlane 427" hub caps, which are quite rare.
This is my reproduction window sticker for my car. I used pictures of old Ford window stickers from the internet, pricing information from an old "arm chair estimator" page and the original selling location from the owner's manual. I created it in MS Word and then filled in the information with a typewriter to make it look more authentic. I think it looks pretty close to what the original must have.
