Page One - My Car
This is my '67 Mustang, it's an A-Code (289-4V) Mustang Hardtop built on February 23rd, 1967 at San Jose. The original color was Dark Moss Green, but the previous owner has repainted it '94 Cayman Green. As you can see from the interior pictures, most of the deluxe interior is gone, the clock, console, radio are all missing and the engine is now a 302-2V.
It was ordered with the following options:
C-4 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic
Equa-Lok Differential with 3.00 Rear Axle Gears
F70-14 Wide Oval with White Sidewall Firestone Tires
Rocker Panel Moldings
Floor Console with AM Radio
Exterior Décor Group

Deluxe Seat Belts
Wheel Covers
and Heavy Duty Suspension
My Plans
My plans are to try to bring the interior back (as close as I can) to it's original trim. The exterior will get a fresh coat of Paint. In the Suspension/Steering/Braking department...Front disc brakes (at minimum), power steering, a performance Suspension and a Tire/Wheel upgrade is in the plans. As far as the "Vroom Vroom" goes, I will put a Performer RPM intake and a 4V carb on the 302 until the 347 Stroker is ready to go (No replacement for Displacement!). The car is already sporting a 9" rear, so I will drop a taller gear (3.50:1) with a Posi unit, this car won't see too much highway.
Floor Console & Steering Wheel
I found an automatic console for a reasonable price, this console is in very good condition, I was lucky to find one this nice for the price I paid. I had the AM Radio for the car, but it doesn't work, since I had decided to install the console anyway, I also dropped the AM Radio in just for looks. I find that the console totally changes the look of the interior...I like it alot.
Check out the Grant steering wheel at the same time, it's not a deluxe wooden steering wheel, but it's a million times better than the original steering wheel that was in it, it was cracked, pieces missing, it was in real bad shape, I had to put a steering wheel cover on it. Installing the steering wheel only took me about 2 hours to install, I had to get an install kit to adapt the Grant wheel to the steering column.
Larger Wheels and Bigger Tires
This is a popular upgrade that makes a car look and drive better. I decided to go with the American Racing Torq-Thrust II. A 1967 Mustang can easily accommodate a 17 inch wheel, as long as the offset is correct and that the tire is not too large. I decided to go with the 16 inch wheels to keep the cost of the tires lower than with the 17 inch wheels. The front wheels are 16X7 with a backspacing of 4.75" and the rear wheels are 16X8 with a 4.5" backspace.
As for the tire sizes, I went with 225/55R16 in the front and 245/50R16 in the back and the fit works well on my Mustang.
Here you can see the difference in width between the 14" wheel (before) and the 16" wheel (after)
From the side, the wheel wells are now filled, it feels like the car is handling better, but with the wider tires, steering at low speed is hard without power steering but it's worth every penny in the looks department alone.
