After a bit of engine work, it's ready for install...
FE series motors are big beasts. They seem to get even bigger when they go into itty bitty mustangs; I think they swell up or something. Juan is smiling at the knowledge of what is in store for us.
After two tries to get it in and failing, we decided to do it OUR own way, not the way you hear it should go in. The third try was made with the left side header already installed, and the right side put on after the motor was partly in. Use of a prybar got the sticky parts unstuck rather easily (R spring tower and steering box), and BAM, it was in. What you see is a racebuilt TCI C6 trans and TCI torque converter.
Here's the stuffed pig. Man, BB fit in there tight!! Hey, check out the "S/" in yellow wax pencil. It was made by the assembly line guys to alert the engine folk that a 390 motor was to be installed. It'll never be seen once the car is together, but I masked it off before I painted anyway; I love little details like that!
Shelby 'glass hood (that fits a standard '67) and the rest body and trim go on next.
Magnum 500s and BFG Radial T/As on a vintage mustang, love it, no matter what the year.
Front: 15x7 with 4.25" BS, 215-60s, 620lb 1" dropped coils, 1" dropped upper A-arm
Rear: 15x8 with 4.5" BS, 275-60s (huge! Love it! I'll get a picture from the rear later, this one makes it look dinky!), 5-leaf standard-eye springs. Going to replace the springs with 5-leaf mid- or revers-eye springs however, there's just too much space above the wheel, need to tuck it into the well a little more.
Body and paint are next...$$ Ouch!!
