Catch Can Fabrication

I've had a breather tank for a while, it functioned fine for day to day use and was small enough to fit easily in the engine bay. It had small fittings ( I purchased it from a race shop, I believe it's really for a kart), but I ignored that and used it anyway. At the last few track days at PIR I was getting smoke at the end of the long straights.

Turns out there was too much crankcase pressure and it wasn't allowing the oil to return to the crankcase from the turbo drain as well as whatever else makes the engine smoke when the crankcase is not ventilated enough.

I did quite a bit or research on breather tank (vents to atmosphere) vs. catch can where the pressure is routed back to the intake. I decided to go the catch can route as the vacuum from the intake helps pull the vapors/pressure out and keeps me from smelling the vapors that used to come out the filter of the breather tank. The majority of the oil/vapor mix will condense in the catch can and will not be pulled into the intake.

Stainless steel filter media. It's not really filtering anything, it just functions as more material for the oil vapor to condense on.

So what do you think of the Japanese Classic Carshow? I was supposed to go to Motoring J last year, I registered 4 months before. 2 of my buddies dropout on caravaning to Solano at the last minute. I don't want to drive by myself so I decided to skip it. My cousin who resides in SF did go, he has a Super Car Supra twin turbo. He won his class and then he got a ticket for excessive muffler noise. He said the Solano Police was waiting outside to give tickets to every one and was towing cars away who don't look like it will past smog. That really sucks. Then David Swig the director of the Motoring J called me and ask who was my cousin who got a ticket and if my cousin friends got ticket also. I guess he is going to decide if he will have the show again in Solano. I would like to go this year if he will host the show. Maybe I will see you there.
