1/4 MILE TRACK

GAFBA SPRING SHOOTOUT: Reynolds, GA. (April 28th, 2002)

Well I decided to race the car again had to see if all the work we had done had paid off.
Nope. 20.54-20.88.

I did bracket race though. I had a blast. I had to TNT to see what my time would be (20.54). I set my dial in for 20.50.

There were 5 of us. My first and 2nd pass were 20.88, so we changed my dial in to 20.70. In the end it came down to me and Andy Mitchell. (He is a high school bracket racing champion)(Me this is my first time bracket racing)

I left first .506 reaction time. Then he was allowed to go. He raced to catch me. All he needed to do was barely beat me to the line and he could win. All because my car was so consistent. See his car ran faster than 15.00, so he could easily breakout. But if he gauged by me he would be fine. He almost did. I was told he had to stand on the brakes in the end to not blow by me.

Well I got 20.85, he got 15.031. He got me. I did get a runner up trophy though.

(Appox~ 17.9 in the )

Still no real bottom end. Played with the timing & rebuilt the distributor. Its at 10, but that is not enough. We took it up to 16 and it helped!

DYNO

ACFA DYNO DAY: Dyno: 7-27-02 @ 2:08:42

I ran my car on the Dyno on Sat and I got some good results.
Remember its a 1987 2.8L Automatic w. AC, but w/o a smog pump.

Factory specs for a 1987 2.8L from a Pontiac Brochure: 135hp and 160lbs-ft. (@ the fly wheel)

Hindrances:
Blown injectors (oil smells of gas and pressure leaks down overnight)
140,000 miles on the engine

It was about 90 degrees, with typical GA summer humidity.

Max Power = 107.8 @ rear wheels (+20%) = 129.36hp @ the fly wheel
129.36hp compared to 135hp from the factory.
Ram Air could do nothing standing still and it was quite warm in the building.
Those were also uncorrected HP #s.
Max Torque = 136.6 @ rear wheels (+20%) = 163.92ft-lbs @ the fly wheel
163.92 compared to 160 from the factory...That should make a little difference on the track
Max speed ran on dyno was 115 MPH

this is the best most informative site on cardomain.com ive ever been on! i love pontiacs and i own a 94 Grand Prix you should come check out sometime. I definately think that u should make ur own site for this generation of Firebirds! Great job on the car, and the hood looks good, ive seen a couple Grand Prix's in the 92-96 gen. that molded the RAM II scoops to the hood and made it look nice, i think someday im going to do the same! PS i had to add u to my friends so i can come back to the site all week at work just to read it all!
