************************************************************************************************************************

For my Birthday in 1999, I got an Alpine DIN and a half CD receiver from Ryan.

SONY CD CHANGER
****************************************

I had this from when I used to run my factory head unit. Its hooked up to the alpine as well still on the FM Modulator. I plan to get an Alpine one at some point so I can do away with the modulator.

Here is the wiring and brain of the modulator...

DASH
****************************************

For the tiny 4x6 speakers GM bestowed on the Firebird dash, I got new 4X6 Pioneer plates.

A plate speaker for those who don't know...instead of a 4x6 speaker, you get a tweeter and midrange speaker side by side.

Its still fits in a 4x6 area. In my dash, this took some cutting on the drivers side speaker hole, but I got it to fit.

I had to trim the inner plastic dash to get the mid range speaker to clear it also.

Once installed I trimmed out the speaker covers in red speaker cloth!

DOOR SPEAKERS
****************************************

Now those who know 3rd gens know they did not come with door speakers...But mine has them now!

While I had the door panels off for sound proofing, I got to thinking. There looked to be enough room next to the window crank, where a power window car would have its motor. I measured & a 5-1/4 speakers would do the trick! Perfect for more midrange.

I got a set of Pioneer 5-1/4 in 2 way speakers. I installed those speakers in the hole where the factory power window motor would have been.
Here it is installed...

Between the speaker and metal you see foam padding. This is for waterproofing the speaker from any dust, dirt or water that may get in the door.

I cut a hole for the 5-1/4s in the door panel

I did not want to deal with the unsightly crank gear from my old non-power windows, so I covered the speaker and the window crank with a 6X9 speaker cover.

REAR SPEAKERS
****************************************

I upgraded the rear 6X9s, in the sail panels, to 3 way Pioneers.

No melting in the heat with my coating, but gas will make it melt as will other car chemicals! I would say heat softens the stuff, but all mine is out of direct sunlight and is undercarpet padding, or under paneling... so it causes no problems! In the dead of summer sitting on hot asphalt I have never noticed the underside coating melting, though I sealed it by painting it.

Nice Ride! I've read a comment about the undercoating melting and stinking in the summer heat... did you ever get that problem?

Yo thats a sweet ride, but whats with the pioneer stuff. you are getting new subs huh. The best out there i've heard, beats JL and Memphis are DDs Digital Designs out of Oklahoma City. I have 2 tens, in my truck, they have the most bass. oughta find some and listen. when install right,DAMN. but sweet ride. You put in a lot of hard work.
