RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdSOUND PROOFING UNDERSIDE
************************************************************************************************************************

I had seen such a vast difference when I did the interior...I even went so far as to jack up the car and spray the entire underside of the car with Duplicolor's Sound Eliminator. I knew it would only help reduce road noise. And it did! Plus, I knew would help protect the car from any moisture that might creep in and begin the rust cancer.

I got nice thick coverage on the underside. After words, I coated everything in a nice coat of Satin black to seal the Sound proofing. I knew with that sticky type coating, it would be a dirt magnet! The satin made it possible to wash with a brush before shows. The dirt comes right off!

I avoided any moving components & exhaust tubing. I did NOT spray the transmission, drive shaft, brakes, shock, or struts.

Then I moved on to the wheel wells. I coated them in Soundproofing and then coated them with a good coat of Satin black to protect them!

Now when Joe and I shaved the Gas filler door and changed out the fuel pump, the gas tank was out.

I decided to take the opportunity to soundproof the body under it...

I attacked the heat shield as well!

I added dynamat where the tank's straps sat.

As I coated the tank itself!

Then once coated, I painted it red over the coating...

TAILIGHTS
****************************************

I noticed a spot was vibrating in the rear! I found it was behind the taillights. You know what that meant...I duplicolored the exterior tail section behind the taillights.

Then, just to be sure, I got the license plate and added sub box carpet to the back of it!

No melting in the heat with my coating, but gas will make it melt as will other car chemicals! I would say heat softens the stuff, but all mine is out of direct sunlight and is undercarpet padding, or under paneling... so it causes no problems! In the dead of summer sitting on hot asphalt I have never noticed the underside coating melting, though I sealed it by painting it.

Nice Ride! I've read a comment about the undercoating melting and stinking in the summer heat... did you ever get that problem?

Yo thats a sweet ride, but whats with the pioneer stuff. you are getting new subs huh. The best out there i've heard, beats JL and Memphis are DDs Digital Designs out of Oklahoma City. I have 2 tens, in my truck, they have the most bass. oughta find some and listen. when install right,DAMN. but sweet ride. You put in a lot of hard work.
