************************************************************************************************************************ BUILDING THE SUB BOX: MAKING A PATTERN ************************************************************************************************************************
So my old set up was only supposed to be temporary, but the retrofit got put behind a long list of other things! Well finally I decided it was time to give the system a face lift more worthy of my new red & black show car interior!
********************************************************************************************************************* All the little details about the box and building it! *********************************************************************************************************************
So I was off to build a custom enclosure that would allow me to both house the 2-12inch subs, but allow for my tools to be stored in a permanent location in the vehicle. I refuse to drive everyday in this car or to long distance out of state car shows w/o a good set of tools! So over the years the collection has grown. Sadly they were in a bag that would have to be hauled out at every show and just set there. Just asking someone to walk away with them! Well the bag was really too small and was always had the potential of messing up the new interior. Plus it weighed so much it was a pain to drag out of the car.
*************************************** Toolbox ***************************************
The idea was to put the tools in the rear cargo well. The tool box would be the exact size of the lower section between the 2 shelved sides!
*************************************** Sub Box Patterns ***************************************
So with that part accomplised it was on to the sub box...I wanted it to rest in the 2 shelves to either side of the box and then go up level to the bottom of the red trim I had added to the cargo area. It would sit in the same location as the old truck lids that are seen every now and again in some 3rd gens!
I started by building a cardboard version. In retrospect, it gave me a feel for the space I had available, but it really was a waste of precious time. I only had 2 days and a few nights to get it done before I would be on the road to the show.
So here is what I did with the cardboard version! Some pics as I built it up! In the next group of pics you can really see the odd shapes that are present in the trunk well around that hatch pull down! Makes it quite a challenge! Finally getting the sides on it... Lid... Out of the car... Here is the rear where the hatch motor intrudes...you can really see all the contours!

No melting in the heat with my coating, but gas will make it melt as will other car chemicals! I would say heat softens the stuff, but all mine is out of direct sunlight and is undercarpet padding, or under paneling... so it causes no problems! In the dead of summer sitting on hot asphalt I have never noticed the underside coating melting, though I sealed it by painting it.

Nice Ride! I've read a comment about the undercoating melting and stinking in the summer heat... did you ever get that problem?

I have 2 tens, in my truck, they have the most bass. oughta find some and listen. when install right,DAMN. but sweet ride. You put in a lot of hard work.
