Now I wanted to update the center console. Well I looked into Carbon Fiber. The only problem was that the kits on the market had an extra hole in them for the side mirror controls that my car was not equip with. So that meant custom fabrication.
You also might have noticed the shift indicator console plate is a bit different from a base model 1987.
My stepfather covered my existing console plastic covers in carbon fiber consoles for me. This is not your typical peel and stick carbon fiber overlay, or sticker. He took it and actually had the carbon fiber made onto the unit.

The yellow cast on the carbon fiber does not mean I have yellow carbon fiber. The resin used on the piece is too thick and yellowed with sun exposure. We are planning to take it out and buff it down, then paint it with House of Colors Candy apple red to see if it will get rid of this effect.

SHIFT KNOB

I got a Spectre Shifter handle from AutoZone. I had one in Carbon fiber styles like the original, but it kept breaking. Instead I went to the upright style, plus the anodized red trim matched the interior!
Installing it took some work. I had to get some rubber tubing to act as a spacer around the shift lever. All the shifter handles had such large holes.

PARKING BRAKE HANDLE

Since there are no aftermarket brake handles for our cars, I ended up having to get 3M carbon fiber vinyl and cover the brake lever to match. That was a chore! I had to practically burn my fingers with the hair dyer to get the vinyl soft enough to lay sooth on the contours of the handle.
