INTEGRATED TOOLBOX

Why?

Basically I have been carrying around an emergency tool kit for years. The car is heavily modified and has over 160,000 miles on it! You can't expect it to run like a new car when it's a daily driver. There are going to be little things here and there.
Take the alternator & battery, for instance, I have had to change them out a good 10 times over the course of the car's life. Never when it is convient either. Then you have light bulbs, fuses...etc... Having wheels with adapters also means I have to keep all the right tools for a tire swap with me at all times! Its always nice to have a set of tools for the interior pieces as well! I just learned over the years what was good to keep with you!
So to that end, I have had this massive bag of tools in the backseat. Not only was it hard to find things, but also hard to get the bag in and out of the backseat. The angle you had to hoist the thing out really gave you back a strain! Then when the bag is out at car shows I always worry it will be stolen! Then you top of the fact that it could mess up the backseat with the new upolstry! I had to do something...

So when I decided to finally make a better sub box, I decided to integrate my tools into the design. The best use of space was to put the tools in the lower truck well of the car. There was a deeper space with 2 shelves of sorts to either side. I could fill up the lower portion and place the bottom of the sub box across those shelves. There would be just enough space for the whole shooting match!
Now I had to take some measurements and go find a toolbox that would do the trick! Well at Home Depot I got lucky. I found a diamond plate box that was with in a few inches of my measurements. I figured the extra space to the sides would be perfect for the compact air compressor and jumper cables!
Here we go for a test fit!
The top is a bit high in the rear...just the way the carpet sits it. It will help the lid clear the trunk hatch release hump though!

I'm sure you are curious about how I finished it out!
Well here is the sub box, so far! Its not done. I have to get my new subs & finish the box by glassing the top. The amps will go in the the back seat backs!
