RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdCENTER CONSOLE REPAINT
************************************************************************************************************************

Well once it was repaired, I decided I wanted to go a step further. The rest of the interior was going all red and black & the darn Dark grey console and radio pod was really bothering me. I decided to go for broke and take them black too!

I noticed this paint by PlastiKote.

It stated it had a flex agent in it and it was a semi gloss black finish. That was exactly what I needed. The flex agent is a must on pieces that are pliable. The satin finish would give a luster just like the factory finish.

Now I had to get all that silicone rubber treatment that had been used on it for years off. I took to it with a red scotchbrite pad with degreaser on it. Scrubbed the surface to a dull finish. Then I got some dish washing detergent to further cut any oil or silicone. I again scrubbed this solution in with the scotch brite pad. Then a good hose off.

I let the part totally dry. This is what I was left with.

Now I got the paint and had at it with a few even coats. It came out great with no contaminated areas. Looks just like the factory finish.

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac FirebirdRADIO POD REPAINT
************************************************************************************************************************

Once the center console was done and I saw how good it came out, I ventured on to the Radio pod. I remembered what a pain the thing was to take out and install with the new carpet, so I opted on and in car paint job. I removed the radio plate & radio. I removed the side vents.

I then carefully gave it the same prep work as the console. I dried it and taped off the AC controller.

I draped the carpet and carefully sprayed the pod. It also came out great.

Next was the vents that I removed from the side. I had decided to dose them in red paint.

Now here they are installed with the radio and face plate installed in the car.

Thanks for the info on the center console repair. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. Hope to have my new red and black interior done before winter. Take care
