SOUTHERN TRANSAM REGIONALS SHOW: Forth Walton Beach, FL. (March 26th-28th)

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

The show was moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fl. this year. Well we made it w/o hitting any wildlife this year as well. But our pres took us on a tour thru AL on the way to the show!. Poor guy had a rough time. He had a trailer tire blow on the way up and a truck tire go on the way back! Got up early Saturday and cleaned and polished. It was a pain to wash the sun kept drying the car to fast and water spotting it. At least the pollen was at a dull roar We spent some time doing some last minute touches at the Show Saturday. As I cleaned, Joe put on the freshly painted & polished Alternator and AC brackets. Then Sunday, show day, he helped me add chrome bolt covers to clean the look of the bay some more.
Weather was beautiful! I won my classThere were 2 of us in the class, my competitors car was a beautiful black GTA

THE FBODY GATHERING: Marietta, GA. (May 30th & June 1st)

Well I was way late getting there On Saturday. I almost was not allowed to show! I had to get Andy Acher (what a great guy!), to get the cless assigners to let me in my class. They said I was too late the judges had the score sheets already. Well being the only one in the class meant that they did not have my sheet yet, so Andy got me entered. I had stayed up for 3 day straight to get the interior ready for this show! Well I got it in somehow! I was not going to not be able to show!

Well on Sunday they had a NEW classa sound competition with an additional stereo install class. I figured why not it was something to do on SundayWell the equipment was not very accurate, so I have no clue what the car ready did in SLP. But my slapped together stereo won 5th out of about 10 cars. Not bad for a hand me down build up. Next year they are going to flip!

BUFALLO CAF SHOW: Stockbridge, GA. (May 8th)

Rod and Rodney of my car club have been putting this car show on. I decied to go check it out. It was small cause of the heat, but I got top 10. There were about 20 cars there.

SUPER CHEVY SHOW: Commerce, GA. (June 6th)

Had some fun on the way up. First the darn battery crapped out. We think the positive bat connector is dead. We got it going, then darn Exhaust shop did not due such a hot job installing the bolts on my y-pipe. The darn thing came loose and was dragging on the way up. We had to bungee cord it up. Thank goodness the show has some quality venders. Joe got a new collector gasket and bolts!

On to my class. Well they did away with the class separations. (cheaper sponsor) There is no conservative, street, and wild anymore! They also did away with separating the trailered cars from the driven cars. So needless to say, I got nailed by a trailer queen. The darn thing was so obviously not driven. I hate that. Darn garage furniture. I dont even think it qualifies as a car anymore!

Runner Up (Outstanding) Conversion All 49 and up

BELLAMY STRICKLAND SHOW: McDonough, GA. (June 12th)

Just a small customer appreciation show put on by Bellamy. They totally hooked us up on food. Leftovers even. Good show! Pretty big too. I got in the top 30.

NOPI MINI TRUCKIN' NATS: Bristol, TN. (July 10th-11th)

So we leave early Fri. Well its a good thing. Had a failure in the fuel system. Darn car dies 60 miles South of Bristol. Had to get it hauled. 4 hours on the side of the road. If only we had a manual, we might have figured it out! But we finally get to the hotel and work on it first thing Sat morn. After a bunch of guesses we figure it out. Somehow there is a fuse of some thing in the computer not allowing the current to power the fuel pump relay. So I hot wired it and get it going. Then a quick wash down. Over to the Show. Well gone is the day of the Good NOPI TN. Shows. They decided to do away with the Charlie Cobble judges (drive thru judging). Means NOPI gets to go over the results and announce the awards. I see Atl nats all over again. Just missed the judges. Sunday morn they get to my car. Of course, they came w/in 30 min of my arrival and I still needed to finish cleaning it. So I get 2nd in my class. Who beat me? Anyone guess, I could not figure out which car! The highlight was the specialty awardbest v-6I could not believe it , at NOPI? WOW

TRANS AM NATIONALS: Dayton, OH. (August 28th-29th)

Well this time I drove the car up there. Boy was it a haul! Made it w/o any difficulties. I think the car actually surprised some of the guys with the v-8s cause it kept up when they started playing on the hwy. Darting and gassing it to play with traffic! So we got up there on Thursday this year. Spent all day on Friday cleaning.

Sat morn we headed over to the show. Stayed till it was time for the cruise in! Managed to get drowned in a horrible rain storm. I was soaked to the bone. Just in the time it took me to run about 100 ft. to an overhang. Then the rain was so bad it was getting us as it blew sideways! Once it let up we headed over to the Cruise in in Tipp City!

Well Sunday was the show. Washed the car that morning and headed over! Got the car ready. Finally the judges came over. Then I waited to see how I would fair that year. Well I got 2nd. Not bad I thought. We had a big class with a lot of really nice cars this year! Then I heard some people fussing in the back at the winners car. I figured out who it was. Would not have been my pick for the first place car. The paint scheme was so dated. The car was plain inside. Engine was decent, just not clean enough. The brakes were a rusty mess and the rims were dirty on the inside. How could the judge miss all that. Esp. when there was a PREFECT Candy apple bird right by him. I could hardly find a flaw with the Candy car! I could have named 3 others that would have deserved to win more, and they did not even place, including the candy car! What is going on I thought. Then I heard the real story from a guy in another class. Supposedly the guy had quit showing a few years back @ the TA Nats saying it was bias and he wanted an Judge that was from somewhere other then OH. Well they got an outside judge alright. And the judge was really good with the winner! I could not believe it, at a National show!

Well, at first they wanted me in custom. Then they put me in Street. I swear they cant keep it straight Anyway, I was just glad they had divisions in Conversion again! Here I was starting to loose faith in the show. All those trailer queens in with the rest of us. There used to be a separation b/w the classes.
