Introduction
I am definitly not new to Taurus's. My first car when I was 16 was my mom's hand-me-down 1995 Taurus SE

It was an abolsutely beautiful car. I pimped it out with whatever funds I had which included 3a racing head lights and a sony rf cd changer. Unforunatly, she was totalled on a gloomy friday. On the morning of 11-17-2000, I drove down my street and the city was doing contruction with the sewer pipes and sewage started flying out as I drove by. Horrified and pissed off at this, I took an alternate route home. As I made an unprotected left as my signal turned red, a ford van ceased to stop and took out the front of my car. I was lucky, it could have been worse where he could have t-boned me, but I had purposely made a wide turn to let the volvo behind me make the light too.
I felt like a knight losing his most noble horse.
After that, I opted for another Taurus. I wanted a sho, but parents said no. I wanted a used 99 maxima, but parents said no because 190hp was too much for me. Eventaully they agreed to let me have a 200hp taurus.
At first glance the 1996 design may be the most obtrusive thing you may have ever laid your eyes on. However, after taking the time see what the car is really made of, I would consider it one of Ford's greatest designs. Not only was it one of the first cars (remember, we are talking 1996 here) to have an interior that doesn't look like it was put together in a lego-like fashion, but it offered many features like a jbl sound system, and POWER lumbar seats.
Behind the wheel, you will notice this car is far stiffer than the pre '96 taurus's. Ford went with a uni body construction rather than welding two halves together. This definitly resulted in a car feeling more solid than ever and a great reduction in the number of creaks and groans.
Here's a list of options & features on the LX:
Leather
6 disc cd changer
JBL premium sound
24v 200hp duratec engine
chrome wheels
keyless keypad entry (awesome feature when going to concerts, etc...just leave your keys in the car)
dual exaust
power lumbar seats
rear a/c vents
auto climate control
I also did a few modifications:
1) upgraded the cup holder
2) added a rear spoiler and sho light bar
3) replaced audio system
The following pages will take you to through my experiences with the taurus, as well as a great ammount of helpful advice on some of the modifications I performed.
