Now I had fallen for the BFGoodrich Scorchers in Red.

I researched till I could get and idea of what size I need to run to keep my speedometer correct. Finally it was decided 245/45/R17 (25.7 diameter) would be good. BFG actually made the tires in that size, so I ordered them!

Ok I got the tires put on in June of 2000 and have had no problems with them specifically. The problems I had were due to some valve stem leaks.

So the other day I got a major flat. Seems I nailed a nail. It was quite serious puncture and the tire immediately went flat. Well we were prepared to swap to my Datsun/Nissan spare. Well the factory jack decided to die on me...do not trust scissor jacks! This thing just folded over on itself. I guess it was because there was a slight incline. The car was not sitting perfectly level on the jack... But when is the road ever perfectly level. Anyway the jack failed! After calling and getting mom to bring the small jack from home, finally we got it swapped and took the tire to get it fixed @ NTB. Well it went well till we discovered a nail in the edge of the tread right next to the sidewall. There was no way they could fix it...

So now I have to get a new one. Well I had road hazard with NTB, so they prorated the tire. And they prorated another tire that was damaged due to going flat, thanks to that leaky valve stem. I had bought new valve stems, so they warranted them as well. The rim had apparently dug nasty chunks out of the inner side wall.

Now I have had the tires since June 2000 and have put 28,000+ miles on it. They are a soft compound performance tire. Well I was told when the tire was new it had a tread depth of 9/32...well my 28,000 mile tire had only worn to a 7/32. 2/32 is usually where the wear bar is. If I was not already sold on their looks, I was now sold on the quality!

Well I got a call from NTB, the Scorchers were on National Backorder. They were told no new ones were being produced at this time. Well I called BFG & they have no plans to discontinue the tire, so I kept my fingers crossed that some would turn up. NTB was supposed to call around and find some, but never called me back. In the interim, I finally found a tire store that said they have scorchers on the way to them. So I decided to get 4 new ones. The old ones I will save for future hazards! The new ones finally came in and I got them on the car. I kept the old 2 that were still in decent condition.

Well due to an alignment issue I prematurely wore out my tires. I had to go back to the back ups in Aug 2004. With all the daily driving to work, I have now worn out these older tires!

Ever wondered what Schorchers will do when worn...The red just wears off. A good wear bar indicator!

Hey I found your car doing a search for bmr strut tower braces. I am thinking about getting the 3 point. I noticed you said you had a problem with Edelbrock and also a little with the BMR. My car is an '85 Trans am with a Tuned Port Injected 305. Do you think it would fit without damaging my hood? My car only has 14,700 miles on it and I don't even want to risk anything with it. Great car and cool mods! You can find me at www.austinthirdgen.org. My signon is soldaustin. Please let me know about the Brace. Also did you do one of the wonderbar ones in the front of the frame to strengthen the gearbox area?

Very nice man. I love seeing the thrid Gen's in such great condition and worked. I still think to this day my 3rd Gen's were the best handling Birds ever. Not to mention, you could beat the hell out of them and they wouldn't brake!

Check out my F-Bod video sometime! Take care man.
