Audi established its subsidiary Audi do Brasil E CIA in 1997. The company, based in Curitiba in the Federal State of Paran�, with an office in S�o Paulo, holds Audi's shares in the Curitiba plant, which was constructed jointly with Volkswagen do Brasil.
The plant employs 3,500 workers; 90% of them are from the Curitiba region. The production areas include body manufacturing, final assembly and a paint shop. The paint shop in Curitiba is one of the most advanced and environment-friendly in the world.
The Audi A3 and VW Golf are built in Curitiba. In 2000, 9,700 of the A3 were manufactured there, of which 8,431 were delivered to customers in Brazil.
