DRIVELINE
I have a "little bit" done here too.
Mods to My Driveline Include:
Quaife Six Speed Gearkit
Quaife ATB Differential
AUTOTECH Lightweight Flywheel (10 lbs.)
Sachs Power Clutch
VW Corrado Based Hydraulic Clutch Lines
VW Corrado Based Cable Shifter Linkage
VW Corrado Pedal Assembly
The gearkit came as a box of gears.
To install the Quaife gearkit, many components had to be changed. My original transmission was the VW02Y, a close ratio, 5 speed transmission. The 6 speed kit does not fit into this gearbox so I purchased a VW Corrado gearbox, VW 02A.
For assembly of the 6 speed, I relied on my cousin's skill and knowledge.(http://webpages.charter.net/geoffvr6/)
Who knows how it would have turned out if I would had built it.
A scoop near 5th gear was grinded down on the gearbox so everything would fit correctly. He also had to drill out rivots on the stock differential to get the gear off.
Scoop mod
Many other areas of my driveline had to be changed as well. My Jetta came stock with the following, which had to be replaced:
Cable clutch
Rod style shifter linkage
210mm clutch and flywheel
Jetta Dash (because of the mechanical speedometer)
Jetta pedal assembly
Jetta starter
The items I used to replace the stock parts that wouldn't work are:
Corrado hydraulic clutch lines and clutch master cylinder
Corrado cable shift linkage
AUTOTECH lightweight flywheel (228 mm)
Sachs power clutch (228 mm)
Corrado dash (because of the electronic speedometer)
Corrado pedal assembly
Corrado starter
The stock G60 Corrado flywheel weighs in at 22 lbs. AUTOTECH's only weighs 10!
I also added a Quaife ATB differential for better traction, and a little personal enjoyment!
Autocross
I love autocrossing. To me...the only reason to build up a car is to DRIVE IT, and drive it hard.
Here's some pics of me racing at a local autocross.
