The cars of my family!
(Pics to be added to this page at a later date)
I have owned more cars by myself than my parents have owned combined in their entire lives, but here is the list of veichles that have been owned by my family over the past ~25 years.
Car #1:
1968 Ford Torino GT
302 V8/Automatic
Blue/Black Vinyl
This was my dad's first car that he bought in 1979 for $200. It originally came with a 302 and automatic, but when the head gaskets went on the 302 and the machine shop improperly decked the heads and blew the gaskets again, he replaced it with a 351 Windsor. It was blue with a black vinyl top that was peeling off, so he ripped it all off and spray painted the roof black. From ~15 feet away it actually looked pretty good. HAHA. He is now looking for a 1968-1969 Torino GT fastback with a 390 and a 4-speed.
Car #2:
1977 Plymouth Volar
318 V8/4-Speed Manual
White/White Vinyl
This is the car my parents had when I was born in 1984. It was a white 2-door with the blue vinyl 1/4 roof and white vinyl interior. It had a 318 and a 4-speed. Dad installed some nice sidepipes and Gabriel Hi-Jacker air shocks in the rear. It was finished off with a set of Cragar S/S mags, nice fat ones in the back. The Volar was never known as a fast or sporty car, but dad's was VERY cool and it kept up with his friends 1973 Corvette.
Car #3:
1981 Dodge Aries-K Wagon
2.2 Liter I4/Automatic
Yellow/Tan Cloth
When we lived in Dingmans Ferry, PA and dad was working out of an office in Northern NJ, he needed something good on gas. This Aries fit the bill pretty well. It had the Mitsubishi-built 2.2 "Hemi" engine which actually made the car pretty peppy. You know he was catching all the girls' eyes with its drab yellow paint and woodgrain paneling. HAHA.
Car #4:
1982 Chevy Malibu Wagon
267 V8/Automatic
Blue/Blue Vinyl
The original "Mom-Mobile". The trusty wagon served us very well. A young girl in a Ford Escort tried to take it out when she rearended us in the spring of 1989, but the tank took the blow pretty well and was fixed up as good as new.
Car #5:
1989 Mercury Cougar LS
3.8L V6/Automatic
Gray/Dark Tan Cloth
When our Malibu wagon was getting tired, dad sold it and we picked up a cool gray Cougar. It had lots of cool options including a digital display dash. It moved pretty well too, with the 3.8 V6. The only incident with this car was when a guy in a Dodge pickup backed into it and busted the headlight and dented the hood. He paid for it out of his pocket, maybe he had issues with his insurance or something, haha. We traded the Cougar in on the 1989 Chevy Van.
Car #6:
1981 Ford F-150
300 I6/4-Speed Manual
Black & Silver/Red Vinyl
We had made it this long without a truck but now we needed one. In the 8 years that we owned this truck, it did more work than Ford ever built it to do. Of course, the indestructible 300 I6 ran strong. Eventually, though, she started to get tired and we replaced her. See below for details on the replacement.
Car #:7
1989 Chevy G20 Conversion Van
5.7 Liter V8/Automatic
Blue & White/Blue Cloth
This van was really cool. It was a 3/4 ton high-top conversion van complete with TV and VCR. It could light up the tires pretty well too with its 350 V8. It served us pretty well for awhile, but we got fed up with it when the transmission crapped out in the middle of a mini-vacation to Niagra Falls. We were able to trade it in on...
Car #8:
1994 Ford Explorer Limited
4.0 Liter V6/Automatic
Dark Purple/Tan Leather
This is the car that mom really ran the wheels off of. With us kids in our teens now, there were all sorts of activities to drive us to. Baseball, soccer, school activites, etc. Eventually after all that running it was just time to replace it. Mom took over driving my 95 SHO seen on page 2.
Car #9:
1986 Ford F-350
7.5 Liter V8/Automatic
Dark Blue/Tan Cloth
Dad bought this truck to replace the 1981 F-150. It is equipped with a 460 V8 engine and a C6 automatic. It also has 6 inches of total lift and 33x12.50x16.50 BFG All Terrain T/A's. This truck is an absolute beast.
