This is a 1976 GMC Sprint (same as el camino just different badging). It has a 400ci small block and a 350 turbo trans. I am in the middle of restoring it.

I have the build sheet and am going to scan in a copy of it as soon as I can. The sheet shows that the car was a special order car with a 400ci small block, with at 3 speed auto, and 3.08 gears (most cars came with 2.73 gears). It was very well appointed with many options. The main thing this car didnt come with was the gauges, bucket seats, and consol that were in the SP models (GMC version of SS).

The original hood was replaced by the last owner when it began to rust. I painted it with primer pain to prevent it from rusting.

There is some rust behind the right rear tire. I am assuming this has been caused by a combination of road debris and the exhaust. The last owner had the exhaust replaced not long ago so the pipe comes out farther behind the rear tire than it used to.

This plate in the bed covers where the rear seat would be in a station wagon. This vehicle is almost identical to a malibu wagon except with the top removed. The original cover rusted and was replaced by a sheet of aluminum.

There is quite a bit of rust in the floor of the bed. I am going to have the whole thing replaced with fresh metal whenever I get around to it. The large holes were caused by exhaust gas coming from below.

The front bumper is bent a little bit (the previous owner said is wife hit something). The damage isn't major and I think it can be straightened out.

I have been doing work on the interior. I would like to get it to a point to where a date does not feel uncomfortable (like they are going to die) when they ride in my car. my last girlfriend cut her leg on something under the dash.

I painted the passenger side door panel and arm rest with interior paint as I have done to other interior parts that I haven't yet installed. The driver door is still a little rough but I will get to it.

I had to go inside of the duct work of this car to remove rust. The previous owner had used large amounts of bondo to fill holes in the air intake for the ac (which by the way doesn't currently work). Leaves and pine straw had found their way into this place and proceeded to rust the metal. I removed most of the bondo that the original owner used, wire brushed and primed the inside, primed it with rustolium heavy rust primer and then gave it a coat of rubber bead liner paint. I haven't had any problems with leaks since and I hope that will stop the spread of rust.

I need to do something about this air intake. It is way to small for this size motor. I don't want to cut the hood though because I like the lines and any kind of scoop will make it to busy in my opinion.

I installed a third brake light to warn drivers who are tailgating and to close to see the bumper lights out of their SUV that I am stopping.

This is what I call wingspan. It is hard to get in and out of the car when I am parked next to someone. And if they are parked close, well lets just say it can be a pain.

Here is a picture of some of the bondo that has come out of the air intake for the ac. I have a tendency to throw the trash from working on it into the back. I have trouble with inconsiderate people doing the same in parking lots, I know my car doesn't look good but that doesn't mean it is a trash can! I have to back into parking places to keep people from throwing trash in the bed.

As I get more work done I will try to keep this page updated. If you have any advice I would truly appreciate it, I'm not to big to ask for help. My e-mail address is GMC.Sprint at gmail.com

About your dual exhaust question: you might have to get a cross member out of a 73 because it has the two humps for exhaust instead of just the one.
