I really wanted the swap to look nice when finished, and because I knew the engine would be the highlight, I wanted to paint the engine bay while it is open to match the future car color. So this meant I had to choose a color quickly! My first choice was black, and I still think that this would have been a sweet color, but I knew that I would be doing the majority of the body work and black would show all flaws. My next choice was red, but I really didnt want red because I already have a red car, I want people to know its custom when they see the paint rather than to think its stock.

So I really had a hard time thinking of a color until I saw a thread in which a couple of people mentioned Subaru Blue. I really liked the look of it on WRXs so I finalized the decision and went straight to the paint store. The guy there knew exactly what I was talking about and mixed some 2004 Subaru Blue Pearl single-stage OMNI paint for the engine bay. I ended up spending way too much time prepping the bay for paint, but in the end it exceeded my expectations.

My work friend Dave Hernandez sprayed it for me, and he did an incredible job. The real color is much darker than what the pictures portray just because the flash of the cameras lights up the pearls in the paint. After it was painted, it was back to buisiness!
I installed the manual steering rack that I bought from a local junkyard. The reasons for this is for more oil pan clearance (which you'll see later) a better steering ratio for non-power steering, and it's lighter :). I also hooked up Granny's Speed Shop mounting kit, which fit like a glove... a glove that requires a hammer and drill to put on ;). But seriously it was a great fit, I would recommend it any day... it saved me COUNTLESS hours.
