My brother and I bought this car in 1997 and it was barely in driveable shape. The previous owner had replaced the stock 350 cu. in. engine with a 400 cu. in. XH coded (350 hp) Pontiac engine with 6X-4 heads and was allegedly rebuilt before sale.   The suspension needed major overhaul as well as the interior. I bought my brother's share from him the next year and I completely revamped the suspension. The next item for revision: transmission.

Since I had posted my car, I have replaced the headers with metallic ceramic coated Hooker headers, installed a Grant Signature steering wheel with a Pontiac horn button, replaced in-dash clock with an in-dash tachometer, rebuilt the transmission and installed a B&M Transkit, a B&M Tork Master 2000 torque converter and a B&M Quicksilver shifter. I lowered the car and added Koni adjustable gas shocks in the rear, gutted the original brake system and replaced it with a Stainless Steel Brake Corp. 4-wheel disc brake system called Force 10. After installing the brakes, I found my old wheels would not fit over the new rotors so I bought a set of Foose wheels: 20X8.5 in the front and 20X10 in the rear and covered them with 245ZR35 Toyo tires on the front and 285ZR30 in the rear. Next up: replace radiator core support, remove fuel cell from trunk, weld in new trunk floor, install new 20-gal. original style fuel tank, replace old fuel line with stainless steel lines, replace fuel pump with high volume pump, and replace intake and carburetor with Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock carburetor. I'll either have a single 700 cfm or higher or a dual-quad setup with two 600 cfms.

(09/24/08)                                                                                                                               As of this writing, the fuel cell was removed, a new trunk pan was welded in, a new reproduction 20-gal. fuel tank was installed, battery was relocated to the trunk, new body mounts installed, rust repair on lower cowl, refurbished radiator core support and inner fenders installed, rewiring began, dash refurbished, new instrument housing bought, left frame horn straightened, Holley 650 cfm dual feed carb rebuilt as well as an electric choke was installed, grille sandblasted/primed/repainted flat black, as well as bumpers and grille trim sent off for rechroming.  My car and others can be seen at Genesis One Automotive, the restoration shop that is helping me build it.  The website is http://www.genesisoneauto.com/ and I highly recommend their services.

Rewiring has been finished, dash and instrument panel installed, lower dash gauge panel fabricated and installed with AutoMeter 2 1/16 clock, oil pressure, water temperature, and voltmeter, and rechromed bumpers installed.  New Flaming River tilt steering column was installed and wiper/washer was rebuilt.  Next major project:  purchase and install Butler Performance 461-467 cu. in. short block with Edelbrock top end.  After that, the only thing left is body work, paint work, and interior work.

Thanks for the encouragement man. Having three 71's I sometimes don't know where to begin. I've mostly just been puttering with the convertable and gathering bits and pieces for the two hardtops.I keep collecting projects and have had to force myself to not take in any more of these orphans. What's that saying? The first step in fixing a problem is admitting you have one? heheI really like the panel for the gauges, looks good installed.
