NOTE: This stage of the project took place while other stages of the restoration were happening, so this "chapter" is not in exact chronological order.
The next area of the Rampage that we wanted to work on was the interior. Specifically, the wiring and sound system. Every inch of wiring was removed from the Rampage before it was sandblasted, and it was ready for the GLHS wires. The heater box and dash were also swapped from the GLHS to the Rampage. (A new heater core was also installed to eliminate any problems down the road.)Easy job now, major pain in the A$$ later.


Around that time, purchased the sound system... Here's the list of goodies:
Receiver:
- Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP
Amps (Yes, two amps!):
- Kenwood KAC-8401 (4-Channel, Max Output 640 Watts)
- Kenwood KAC-8101D (2-Channel, Max Output 1000 Watts)
Speakers:
- 3.5" Dash Speakers - Punch FRC4203
- 5.25" Coaxial Door Speakers - Power T152C
- 6" Rear Component Speakers- Punch P162S
Subs:
- Two 10" Punch Stage 2 P210S4
- 200 Watts RMS / 400 Watts Peak each
With the dash installed, it was time for the Pioneer head unit. (That's a Shelby leather-wrapped wheel! The original GLHS gauge cluster with speedo decal is in there, too!)
What you don't see are all of the wires and RCA jacks in the back of the receiver and behind the glove box insert. Also, along the driver side of the floor is a 4-gauge main power cable!
These are the 3" tweeters in the dash. They are supported by a custom adapter plate which allows us to make use of the single hole intended for just one speaker from the factory. They're powered directly by the receiver's amp. (They can only handle about 30 watts, so bass-blockers were added to remove any low-end.) The rest of dash trim will be installed after the windshield pillar trim is put in. This piece will include a double-gauge pod which will house AutoMeter boost and air/fuel ratio gauges (Sport-Comp Series).
The amps...They were mounted on a 1/4" plywood panel cut to fit and covered with a textured light gray vinyl (to match the GLHS trim parts). The fused distribution block was mounted in the center. (The gold border is a reflective black vinyl trim which resembles the body paint.)
This is the custom subwoofer box. And for anyone who has built a sub box, it's not very easy, and at times it was not very fun. After two or three days of trial and error (including a complete failure of a first box!), here it is...

The doors were soundproofed with Dynamat, and the 5.25" door speakers were installed.
