MADMK1's 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit

The Rabbit that started it all, came of the line in 1981 as a 4door LS Deluxe model, 1.7L Fuel injected with an Automatic Transaxel, I am the 3rd owner of this car, it had 134000Km on it when I bought in spring of 2003 for roughly 1400$, october 2003 the transmission started to go faulty so I contacted CWS Tuning, told them I wanted to strip another Rabbit that was standard and swap it. The donor was a 1984 GTi with a Mk2 GTi 1.8L 8valve motor and 5 speed transaxle. It was done I drove the MUCH quicker and now a "sleeper" Rabbit for exactly 5 days. A guy with a Tiberon who was unaware of the rules of the road decided to pull a U-turn in the middle of the road. So SGI gave $1900 for the car and I bought it back for $282.50.

RABBIT #2 1984 GTi (this picture was taken before this car was backed into and before the head gasket went and before the floor rusted out)

RABBIT #3 and current project car. Where to start... bought for 800$ with rougly 120,000km on the clock, all 4 struts were shot couldn't do over 60km, broken front spring, spray painted interior, door had been left open while driving and did not close properly.
(if you have the same problem put a floor jack underneith the door and a piece of MDF between the door and the jack and jack up the door untill it is aligned.)
There was 4 different keys for the car (1for drivers door, 1 for pass. door, 1 for ignition, 1 for hatch) so I replaced all of the locks to match one key. I replaced a control arm, idle set screw, changed the air filter, and oil probably had not been done since 80's by my observations, the starter was only being held in by 1 loose bolt, had to get the timing done by CWS, replaced the exhuast with 2.25inch, stripped the interior down too steering wheel drivers seat and gauges. Replacing with 84 navy blue GTi interior then doing a MK2 16v dash swap.

Great choice for a powerplant. Good luck on the build up.

Hey, have you put all your poly bushings in yet? There's some common knowledge about what works and what doesn't. Hit me at cswart2403@rogers.com if you want more info
