A new page...a new life for the Avenger.

Just to compare what WAS in my car to what IS...
Waaaaaaaay before the conversion is the 6G73 V6 2.5L motor

...during the conversion...
Here's the beginning of my conversion done by Jason and Matt at Redefined Rides

New Mod
Extreme Turbo Systems FMIC and short route piping...Bar&Plate 30x7x3. This company was very helpful and they even swapped out the hybrid in their kit for the bar and plate model. The kit itself is very well made. I don't like the sharp turn on the turbo piping but a lot of folks do that also. The turn easily clears the stock fan shroud and lower radiator line.
Well, I took the aluminum piping off even after making one that snaked to the BOV because I kept crushing the thin walled tubing. I'm finished with the piping and mounting the fmic but I didn't get to finish putting the fascia back on it the same day because I started the project late. I finished putting the front end back on the day after..I had to do it during the day because the shop light didn't give me enough to line up the bolt holes or enough light when I dropped bolts :/. I also ended up having to trim the passenger foglight opening and modifying the passenger fan shroud all of which were in the instructions. Here's some pics.

Stripped front end....fmic alignment

New piping bov opening VS. stock flange. The larger opening is insignificant since the 1G BOV's bottom plate is just a tad smaller than the stock flange opening.

I recently bought a 94 Hyundai valve cover...why? The one I bought is a bit thicker than the Mitsubishi one, which means less stress cracks, as I call them :D. It maybe hard to tell in the pics but the Hyundai VC is thicker and more bolstered.
The Hyundai VC is on the top............the HVC is on the left and you can see the thicker stud base.
*NOTE* Before July of 94 build Hyundai valve covers are the same as the Mitsubishi valve covers in every aspect. The one I have, an after July of 94 (aka 95), not only has thicker walls but uses studs instead of bolts to fasten it to the head which means the Mitsubishi valve cover gasket bolt holes need to be "opened". The spark plug tube gaskets are unchanged. Bolt replacements are...M6X1.0x35mm (outer bolts), M6x1.0x30mm (inner). The inner bolts from the Mitsubishi VC can be used on the inner holes of the HVC, except the stud holes are still bigger and all the HVC holes used load bearing washers (hard rubber washers). I wanted to put this info down on the 95 and similar model valve covers for others that might be doing the same thing. A lot of people don't know about the bigger holes, load bearing washers, or maybe they just don't care...I do and I'm sure you do too. So, there you go, there's what you need to know...now go and get one :). Remember the older model HVCs are the same as all the 4g63 (DSM) MVCs.

It's kind of hard to tell in this CD pic at this size but the HVC on the bottom has thicker gasket walls and you can see the stud hole is thicker or more fortified. Car and build date info..1995 (after July of 94) Hyundai Elantra 1.8L

Newest mod going in...60mm throttle body from Steve Monroe at ThrottleBodys.com. This will be mated to Dave Brode's 2.5" elbow and my 2g intake manifold will be port matched, by Dremel (my tool for those that didn't get it). Thanks again Steve and Dave! I recommend these two if you're looking for premade elbows and matching generation throttle bodies, they're both very customer oriented and will answer just about any question you throw at them in a very timely manner. Steve's bored 2g throttle body is great! He fixes any manufacturing defects along the way. I forgot to take pics of Dave Brode's elbow by itself though (too excited to install it!).

Before and after shots...can you see the difference in the bends?
silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger
Here's some differences of the elbows. The two biggest reasons
I wanted to get rid of the stock 2g elbow are...
Dave's elbow (left) mates up with my 2.5" I/C piping, while the stock size is 2.25"...the stock piping also has an abrupt angle and it's noticable on the inside, Dave's is curved.
silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger
I also requested for an extra 1"-1.5" on the elbow because the FMIC kit is for an Eclipse's fitment and since the Avenger's fitment was only about 1.5" longer. I made the request and Dave said "no problem"...Awesome!
The stock elbow gave me an 1"-1.5" gap whereas the new elbow touches and gave me more room to correct the "stretching" and get rid of it completely for less possibility of boost leaks. Just to clarify...I had to "stretch" the couplers and piping to reach the stock elbow...not anymore :).

More finished pics.

Just an updated pic of the motor (left)....even newer still (right)....cold air partition, polished and ready to be painted mani cover, and repainted plug cover and timing belt cover.
silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avengersilvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger
Since the elbow and TB doesn't look any different than the stock one from a distance, I won't bore you with another motor pic :D

Well, I crushed my 1G DV too much and deceided to get an aftermarket one, so I got a Forge Motorsport 1G DV from Velocity Factor

I have it on my car now and it's a gorgeous piece. It's pretty loud for being recirculated and the sound is very unique. I like it a lot and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Changed up my gauges recently. I used to have AC Autotechnics S7 Invision gauges, but they were hard to see during the day. So, I replaced them with Prosport gauges and they are so much easier to see. Both gauges are similar to Defi in the sense that they have smoked lenses, but that's it, lol. The Prosport electronic gauges do mimic the Defi sweep though.
The Prosports are so much better IMO. For the price, you can't beat them and I have no issues with them at all.

Here's a pic of what the AC Autotechnics looked like.
They both look the same from this distance................I had to come a bit closer so that the camera could "see" the gauge face (my eyes too).
silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avengersilvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger

With the Prosports, day or night, the gauges are easy to see. I've even had the sun behind me and I could still see the gauges and needles. Both my Prosport gauges are electronic also, so they do the self check "sweep"...pretty cool.

"The Sweep, vid" from Prosport

During the day, with the car off, you can kind of make out the gauge numbers.................With the car on, it's like the lenses aren't even smoked. I don't even have to zoom in or strain my eyes to see them during the day. I'm not too fond of the silver ring that holds the lens on, so I'll paint them black a bit later. From the outside and with my tinted windows rolled up, it's a complete sleeper....until you see the FMIC up front anyway, lol.
Just to clarify for anyone still unclear, during the day with no cloud cover and with full sunlight streaming in, you can still easily see the gauges. There's only minimal glare, just like you would have with regular non-smoked lenses like the Autometers. I can and will easily recommend these gauges. Customer service is on par with the "big dogs", actually, Prosport is probably better with customer service than the big dogs.
silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avengersilvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger

When you turn on the lights, parking or headlights, the gauges are wired to turn to the red/amber lighting. It's easy on the eyes at night too.

silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger

Well, I did some more work. I've removed the Greddy FATT from the steering column to the center console like I've seen done before.

silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger

It cleared up my frontal view, so I like that :)
I also painted the silver trims black. I like that too. For a modified car, it sure does look stock doesn't it? I'm trying hard to keep it that way too. :D

Newest mod, yet to be installed. Coolingmist water/alky injection kit

silvercoupe97's 1997 Dodge Avenger

My latest mod. Power Slot rotors and EBC RedStuff brake pads. Nothing too impressive. The goal was to get more "bite" and a tad bit more braking power. It worked. :D
