The swap
.
.
.

RBs pretty much slip in the S13 shell, the key component here is the R32 Xmember, once you have that, you can slip ANY RB in it, its the same block one another, the RB20 tranny xmember even bolts right up to the 240. So for this kind of swap, I would recomend a front clip to those who want it in and running before doing anything to it.

even the stock side mount intercooler fits with ease for those who want the engine in and working first and then mod it later on.

I ordered the 240sx Nismo tranny mount to replace the worn or broken RB one

fitting the RB20 in the S13 chassis

-stock mechanical radiator fan will not fit, replace it with electric fans, I myself use two fans, one is a perma cool the smaller one is a flex-o-lite

-steering knuckle will hit the turbo downpipe, modification will be needed for proper clearance, for example, this is what I did. Took the stock cast iron downpipe, cut it, twisted it and welded it back together. still had to grind it a little for enough clearance

Since i'm running a externally wastegated system, I modded my manifold to adapt the 38mm Tial wastegate. The 3" downpipe is custom made to fit around the knuckle with ease.

-If using the stock intake manifold and the R32 Xmember, some cuts are needed in the hood braces for throttlebody/plenum clearance when hood is closed. If using the stock KA Xmember, performance shops like Top Hat and Mckinney motorsports makes mounts for RB to S13 swaps, makes the engine sit lower and further to the back, enough for hood clearance. Here's the intake manifold I run. Its a good upgrade for FMIC efficiency as well as solving the hood clearance problem :)

Some more pictures once I welded the acc mounting plate on the 1rst intake, plus a few vacuum fittings. Tried it with the stock 60MM throttle body for a while but now I have upgraded to the big bad 80mm Q45 TB.

time to take this little one out of the way

RB20DEThybridnut's 1991 Nissan 240SX RB20DEThybridnut's 1991 Nissan 240SX

The 80MM is pretty big. It's so big in fact, I needed to modify the alternator bracket to get it to open full throttle.

-The stock 240 driveshaft will slip right in the RB's tranny output shaft. Now with an high HP setting, at high torque, I get major flex in the front rubber U-joint on the stock KA driveshaft along with the rubber hanger bearing assembly causing loss of power transfer. So I built a custom one piece drive shaft, front universal joint comes off a '97 nissan pickup, the yoke fits right in the RB20 tranny, the back U-joint is from the stock 240, good upgrade from the stock drive shaft with all the rubber joints in it.

-I know for a fact you can bolt on an RB20 tranny on an RB26, must be the same for a 2.5, they are all the same blocks, have to check/change pilot bushing maybe for different input shafts.

-exhaust is usually custom although from '89 to '98 most front engine RWD Nissan cars (240s/skyline gts-t) seem to share the same exhaust pattern which could be used to custom one out. My exhaust system, 3 inch diameter straight tubing. I got bent at a local muffler shop. Had a 3 inch inlet flowmaster muffler.

Here it lies, one of the most potent yet underated engine

Stock VLSD off a '91, it seems to hold up good with the slicks, no complaints so far

Since I need all the traction I can get, I got this adjustable rear toe control arms/adjustable rear camber/adjustable rear traction rod kit so I can put all of the tire surface to the ground, since stock 240s tend to give a little neg camber, limiting the contact on the inner part of the tire/slick.
