Hello! Welcome to my Volvo page, where I am restoring an old beauty, a 1978 242DL. Back in December 2003, my Grandpa said he had an old Volvo that he wasnt using, and since we were coming up to visit for the holidays, I could take a look at it and see if I wanted it. Armed with not much more then an old digital camera and the Hanes and Chilton manuals, I took a bunch of photos and looked over the car.

It had some problems, like a non-working overdrive, almost dead radio, some starting issues, and a new paint job in order, but I fell in love with it. It had no rust (a rarity in north California/ Oregon), had a good engine that didnt eat oil, and a good transmission.

A quick note: some of these are current, and some are older from when I first visited the car up north, ether way, I dont have a good digital camera and my pictures are scaled down when I upload them.

Heres the front. Note the emblem near the drivers right headlight. Thats the logo for Lambda Sond, and since it was a California model, was one of the first models (Volvo wise) to have it, way back in 1978.

Thats a picture of the back.

Thats the badge on the passengers side. It probably faded from the sun.

The drivers side badge. It looks ten times better, as does the paint on that side... strange.

Hey! Thats not a standard Volvo gas cap! Some die-hard Volvo guys are probably screaming right now... As you mite suspect, Ill replace this, probably with a locking gas cap from Kragin. Dont want anyone stealing my cheep gas, now would I?

I put my swimming sicker on there soon after I got the car. Cant wait to drive to morning practice!

I was reading your paragraph on MegaSquirt, and I had a few thoughts: Are you planning on doing any other modifications at the same time as MegaSquirt? And what are you planning for on intake mani? You'll need to either drill out your CIS injector holes in your existing head, or (a much better solution), get a B230 intake manifold, and drill, tap and plug the existing injector holes (or just leave the CIS injectors in place), and run stock LH2.4 injectors. Have you removed the airbox warmup valve yet? You can see a slight performance boost from this... Drop me a line on TurboBricks sometime, and I'll help you out with planning a MS conversion, and what-not. It's always cool to see somebody with another old brick thinking about modifying it.
