This is my 1966 Dodge Monaco Conv its my first car. I got her when I was 17 from my father for christmas.

The ride was in over all good shape for a 66 but it needed some overhaul-in the first thing I did when I got it was to change the oil, belts, tires, rad hoses, signal light switch, brake light switch and a new battery. I got the car on the road and shortly after I broke the motor mount from doing burn outs from every stop light in town. I soon learned I had to take it a little easier on the old girl, not only for the car's sake but for my own well being, because my old man would have kicked my ass if I didn't. My father owned the car since 1968 and still loved it when he passed it on to me so he didn't really appreciate the fact his youngest son was abusing his precious 66 convertible but he understood I had to see what the old girl was made of. I remember when I was 19, I was helping the old man change the spark plugs on the convertible cause it was only running on 6 or 7 cylinders, when we finished and he fired that motor up he started to tear up. I didn't know why at the time but later on I realized that  he loved that car sooo much that all the good times and fun memories he had in it just came pouring back just by the sound of that motor rumbling the way it should. My father has since passed and I have been DEDICATD to breathing new life into the sweet ride you see before you. I first pulled the 383 cu'in motor out and had it rebuilt cause it smoked a lot from burning oil. The motor is bored over 30 and has a mild cam in it, I had the tranny rebuilt, resealed and reinstalled (727 torqueflite 3 speed auto) I found a posi rear end with 323 gear and hooked it up, went down to the exhaust shop and had 2 1/2 inch true duals put on with 24/3 inch chrome tips. The body&paint work took about 8 months I put a new convertible top, a new windshield, replaced the broken tail lights (still look-in for a good set) front signal light lenses, new carpet, replaced the rear interior panels, redid the back seat and painted the dash. I bought a set of 18' 100 spoke chromies originally but have since replaced them with a set of 20' 100 spoke PLAYA chrome wires I bought them from a friend in the club I belong to (TRUE PLAYAZ LCC)

I got the Factory interior in finally and it came out looking new. Have you ever had your car appraised? A guy from Regina drove out here to look at my car. He has been calling for about a year now. I let him drive the car but said that it was not for sale. He said that he wanted a price. I told him $30,000 hopeing to get rid of him. He said that he will be back in the spring with a trailer if I would store it for the winter. What are these cars worth? I went to the drag strip this summer with the Monaco. I got paired up side by side with my bud with the 65 Caddy Convertable. Again he pulled me off the line by a car length. I caught and passed him at half track and beat him by a second. I have been told that my 600CFM Edekbrock is not the right carb for a 383HP. If I still have the car next summer I am putting on a 670 CFM Holly Street Avenger. Supposed to be way snappier out of the hole and better top end.

Now I am confused. I have the emblem from the 66 Monaco 2 door hardtop and the emblem from the 66 Sport fury. Apperantly they are both wrong for convertable. We are planning to go Drag Racing this Saturday with a large group of classics.and customes. This should be interesting.

Hi Doug, Do you still have the origional rear speaker emblem? I have two but I dont know which is correct,If either. I have one plymoth emblem ,rectangulal, Rounded corners on the bottom, red white and blue strip like the door pannels, Plymoth emblem in the center. The second one is a Dodge emblem. Rectangular, rounded bottom coeners, Twice as thick as the plymoth emblem and has the Dodge checkered flag emblem in the middle of an argent silver background. Both have a lot of chrome on them and have two mounting studs on the back. I have most of the Parts car pieces in the Dodge. I still have to put in the bucket seats. It seems strange to be putting a 44 year old interior into a car but it made a huge differance in the appearance of the car and the value.
