Engine & Exhaust
Updated Photos: I rerouted the the air filter to get more cold air and also added some foam insulation to make a better seal to keep out hot air from the engine and also to prevent the shield and pipe from rattling together.
Td04-15T is now installed along with custom t5/t7 inlet pipe from Genuine Saab. The car screams much more power than before, along with the Stage IV software from SQR. I have a big smile. on my face.
Well I finally managed to get the IC in my car. Here's the before w/ the crappy stock dual pass IC, and then heres the new one mocked up on the car, I would have taken fully installed pics but my cameras battery died. Car pulls much harder and longer now, also seen a pretty decent bump in gas mileage, due to the fact I was running a stage 3 on a dual pass IC before hand. Took me the better part of 2 days as this is by far the most involved project I've done so far and by myself in my driveway with the car flat on the ground, but hey It was a learning experience, so far so good.
DIY Oil Catch Can
1 - Mini General Purpose filter use for air compressor tools
2 - 1/4" Brass Fittings Barbed ends
1 - 5 ft length of nylon braided pvc hose
4 - Hose Clamps
1 - Roll of teflon Tape
The oil tank catches all the blowby oil in the air that gets vented out of the crankcase, this oil lowers octane in your gas as well as gets into the turbo and the intercooler, making it harder for the heat to dissapate. I would also reccomend replacing the pvc nipple and rubber grommet at this point.
It ended up coming out great, all parts cost under $20 and it took about 20min to install, hardest part was get the hose to fit over the PVC nipple, after I heated the tubing a bit with a lighter it softened up enought to fit. the tubing wasn't that flexible so I had to route it in a circle to go with the bend of the tubing. Also remember to remove the filter elment, it will be more effective without it.
Detailed The Engine and Did some painting.
Finally Got One!
Picked up a TD-04 turbo of ebay for $100!!!!! I'm putting this in along with a new FMIC soon. Hope to get it on the dyno and blow away my old numbers
STAGE IV IS NOW DONE!!!!
Here is the man, Frank Stromqvist of SQR Racing tuning my ECU. The difference was astounding. As soon as I can get it on the dyno I'll post the results.
Well The Results are in, sub par right now, as I am running the horrible stock base Intercooler, and my ecu is still adjusting, it will take some time to break in but I can feel it getting better.
New 3" Downpipe
I went with the Saab Stainless 2.5" exhaust with a double walled tip. It produces a nice low toned growl.
Here is my Speedparts open air intake with JR filter from Genuine Saab
I completed the TBTC mod thanks to Eric's Saab Site and Dean from Saabnet. Notice the Saabnet printouts covered in metal shavings. I would be lost with that site.
I Also installed the Hyperboost BPV with the BPV Blow Off Filter Kit from GEnuie Saab. Pics soon come.
