My earlier upgrades lasted me quite a while, then the urge to get a better source unit got the best of me. So I went off looking for a replacement head unit. I wanted to get the Alpine CDA-9815 but it hasn't reach our shores yet, not available at the local distributer yet. I waited for a couple of month then took the plunge and got the Alpine CDA-7998 instead.
Since the Alpine comes with 4V pre-out, 1/3 octave crossover with 6, 12, 18 and 24dB/Octave, the Audio Control Overdrive line driver and Orion CS1 active crossover are removed. Direct signal from the source to the amp, less knicks and knacks along the way to polute the signal. Since my Sony HU comes with a changer, it would be a waste to throw it out, then I decide to utilize the Alpine's Aux-in function and thus I am able to run both HU, with the Alpine as the Master.
With the Alpine's phantom face in or concealed, it looks like I just have a lousy cassette player. Now you see, now you don't!
Year 2004, I went to California USA, and got another amp there. It is a Tru Technology T4.100 (100W RMS X4). Got it direct from the factory itself at La Crescenta, also met up with John Yi and John Fairchild. The photo of the amp was taken on the night itself after I got the amp. Next day, Disneyland.
Few weeks later I also got a new set of components, OZ Audio Matrix 180CS.
OZ-180 6.5" Mid-range/Mid-bass.
OZ-25 Silk/Cotton blend Tweeters
OZ-PXO-61 Crossovers
