VW 1302-S

It's a 1972 Super Beetle, also known as 1302-S in some countries. It's a daily driver since my college years and it never fails me to all the long trips I've made, until now. The body is restored even the fenders, except for the rear apron which is copied from a '73 model 1303-S this is to achive more clearance for the exhaust system, the rear decklid recieved 10 holes drilled for about two inches behind the plate no. to have more ventilation, it is dechromed and color coded for a sportier look, smoked tail lights and a clear turn signals at the bumper for a modern look, and headlights are H4 units with Hella H4 bulbs for that late night driving at our local Mountain Antipolo.

Fitted under stock fenders are a set of Rota Toxxin 17x7 wheels the off-set is +42 and it is wrapped with Dunlop LM702 tires 215/40R17 in front and 215/45R17 at the rear, a 1994 civic rear coil spring is custom fitted to fit the 17 inch wheels at front, but the tension is too hard so I swapped it to a rear coil spring of a 1994 lancer for a softer ride, a 4x114.3 adaptor is custom made by my friend Noni (Ronaldo Sagum), who has a shop at Cubao Philippines L7 (Luftsieben), all the convertion you can imagine to your beetle is possible at his shop, even restoring a beetle. Sachs super touring gas shocks are fitted on all sides, a custom strut bar, a sway bar and a set of Poly Urethane bushings are also installed to stiffen the suspension. Last is the rack and pinion conversion installed by Jimmy Galvez he has a shop at Sta.Mesa Philippines, the setup helps me in cornering and makes turning easier, bec. of the increased turning radius, and it is more responsive. Inside I used Personal Steering Wheel, a RAZO shift knob leather and Razo pedals model TiRP65, a custom made racing seats, this setup improves the handling of the beetle so its more fun to drive at back country roads, and occasional Autocross race.

Behind the Decklid, the engine's displacement is 1679cc, built by my Godfather
Tirso D. Aguilar a well known specialist of Volkswagen here in the Philippines, port and polished the stock heads, increased th compression ratio, match porting, 912 spec. cam, Weber 32/36 progressive carburator with Empi manifold, custom
4-2-1 stainless steel headers and cuztom made N1 style Muffler, 009 distributor by Bosch and platinum plugs, a breather box by Empi, an
MSD 6A Ignition System and Accel High Tension Wires. The power is transffered to a 4.1 stock IRS VW transmission, with straight SACHS clutch components.
