Wider is better!
Fitting the 17" Cobra R wheels under such a small car wasnt a simple bolt-on procedure. (The rear tires are BFG G-Force 275/40ZR17s, and the front tires are BFG G-Force 245/45ZR17s.)
I modified the upper control arms, because the wide wheels were rubbing and severely limiting the steering travel.
I used a plasma cutter to remove the factory 3/4" reinforcing lip and then boxed the arms with 3/16" steel plate and a mig welder.
I also installed a set of 7/16" wheel spacers along with long ARP race wheel studs front and rear.
I fabricated and installed a set of adjustable steering limiters, so that the wheels won't brush the upper arms.
3/4" lip removed from front section of upper arm.
New boxed section creates rigidity to compensate for the removed 3/4" lip.
Finished upper control arm, bead blasted and ready for paint.
