AT THE DYNO

One of the local speed shops, Speedtek, had a Dyno Day special. Three pulls for $35.

propellerhead's 2004 Ford MustangFor those who haven't been to the dyno, it's quite simple. They drive your car onto the dyno where the rear wheels are on rollers. They strap it down by the axles, front and rear. The dyno operators connect a sensor to the electrics on one cylinder to measure RPM. If the dyno includes the wideband O2 readings, they stick a sensor up your tailpipe to read how rich or lean the exhaust is. They drive your car at high gear, start the recording and floor the gas pedal. Dyno measurements are taken at WOT. They let off at or around redline and stop the recording. When done, they unstrap your car and drive it off the dyno. That simple.

propellerhead's 2004 Ford MustangI got 238 rwhp and 286 torque with the K&N Filter, Mac Prochamber and the first cut of the RWTD tune. The a/f ratio was steady at 14:1. I still don't know why there was such a variance in the readings. I emailed Speedtek and never got an answer. I thought dyno runs would show maybe 2-3 rwhp differences but my dyno run showed up to 11 rwhp variance. WTF Speedtek?

Nice tips. I like the 3.5" it fills that hole much better. Rolled edge is the only way to go. I am changing mine to 3.5" rolled edge and I ran across your page =)

Nice Stang! www.MustangSequencers.com: You should think about getting sequential tail lights.

Nice ride. Very informative write ups as well, you should write for a mag or website. Would love to hear a "how to" on launching an auto tranny from your perspective..

not a bad dyno for the minimal amount of mods. and i wouldent get longtubes until u are almost done modding your car or already have alot of mods, b/c they cost alot and the end return on HP isnt that much. underdrive pulleys are very effective and maybe run u 150 bucks. they can raise ur HP anywhere from 8-14hp, which is what the longtubes MIGHT do but at a waay higher price. also, if ur looking to get a really really loud cat-back go with SLP loudmoth I..it will wake the dead...later
