Stereo Integrity 12" Mag D2
The best just got better.
Introducing the new Stereo Integrity 12" Mag D2, featuring an all new custom tooled motor and a completely fresh moving assembly.
First and foremost, everything is new - the surround, cone, dust cap, spiders, voice coil, and finally, the motor.
The surround is still made out of the same basic material as the previous offerings, foam. The foam we are using now is more durable, more compliant, and allows for more excursion. The cone is lighter and stronger, made out of the same material (paper), but formed, heated, and cured differently than the previous cone.
The most noticeable difference in aesthetics is the regular dust cap vs. that of the inverted dust cap on the previous models. There are some hidden aspects of why this new dust cap shape is necessary for form and function. The biggest advantage of our convex dustcap is the strength it adds to the cone.
The spiders are all new progressive roll 8" spiders with non-woven tinsel leads. If you are thinking "non-woven tinsel leads you say? ...there must be lead slap!" we feel you, but there is no need to worry. Lead slap is not an issue with the preventative measures on the back side of the cone. The combination of the new spiders with the new voice coil leads allows these new drivers to move an impressive 3" of peak excursion!
Keeping moving mass to a minimum we are using huge 20 gauge aluminum voice coil windings 2.4" tall wound on a 3" diameter black anodized aluminum former. The moving mass is around 220 grams, which is very light for a voice coil that can smother a Coke can. Keeping such a large voice coil helps a subwoofer in many ways, which include lower power compression and higher power handling.
The all new custom-tooled motor uses twin 20mm magnet slugs and a massive 1.5" tall backplate. The motor of the 12's is completely brand new with attention to detail paid in every crevice. If it wasn't needed, it wasn't used. If it was needed, it was built. We were able to get better performance out of these new subwoofers by actually using smaller magnets! The backplate got larger as a result of the smaller magnets, and overall gauss was kept at the desired level. All of this translates into a more efficient, more powerful, and better performing subwoofer than ever before.
The previous competition years our subs were to put through the ultimate tests - the SPL lanes. Can our subs handle themselves well in the SPL lanes? Numbers such as 156 dB in the stock division of SLAP, 154 dB in MECA's M4 class, 152.2 (a new world record) in MECA S1, and 146 dB in the NSPL regular cab truck class of SLAP answer with a resounding "YES."
