This is my sons 1965 GTO. It's an original "P" code (Iris Mist) car which is the rarest color for a 65" GTO (was not popular in 1965) and was originally ordered with the 389 4bbl motor, wide ratio 4spd trans, optional 3:55's for the posi rear, a black vinyl top with the parchment interior and no power options. He purchased the car in January of 2004 and has done some upgrades since then, the first being a switch to 15" BFG's and the 15" Rallye I wheels. Next was the installation of a set of Doug's headers and a Flowmaster "American Thunder" 2 1/2" exhaust system with an H pipe. The suspension was next, boxed lwr control arms, new upper arms for the rear, both with poly bushings, a PST poly super front end kit, new centerlink, NOS steering stabilizer and for safety, a driveshaft safety loop and a power disc brake conversion. Some misc projects have included having the tripower carbs rebuilt, adding a fan finger guard, replacing the original 4 core radiator, installing ACC carpet and mats, adding a rear seat safety belt for his daughter and opening up the hood scoop for a functional Ram Air system. The window fuzzies and belt line moldings have recently been replaced and Comp Cams roller tip rockers installed along with new pushrods and polylocks for the ARP screw in rocker studs. The car really draws attention whenever it's out and people are constantly asking about the color.
June 2005 - Entered the car for the first time in a judged local event. Won first place trophies for Best Muscle Car and Best Classic. My son would have been very proud and happy to see his daughter accept the trophies for their car.
Note - My son passed away on March 11, 2005 after a lengthy battle with bone cancer. The car will be kept and enjoyed by myself and his daughter and will eventually be passed on to her when she is old enough to appreciate what it meant to her dad. We miss him terribly.
