Mika is my daily driver and part time track car. After my 92 was hit while at a stop sign in my cul de sac I bought a 96 Z28 that I had for around 9 months, in which I installed some nice LG suspension bits along with a race cam/valvetrain etc. It was fun with a decent amount of power but drove like a boat & was a large as one too! I missed the fun of a covertible & the handling of the 92 Miata I had before. So in 2003 I begane searching for another Miata for a daily driver. After spending a few months looking for a suitible replacement Miata, I ran across an Autotrader add that was only 1 hour old. 30 minutes later I was test driving it that Sunday evening. The seller was suprised at the quick response to the ad and my eagerness to see it despite being late night. The next morning I handed the man a cashier's check for $3700 & drove her home! I adopted what was a pristine 120k mile 1990 Miata from a German Jewish architect, who had every receipt & record for all service performed to the car & was always garage kept. Since then, I have performed a lot of mods and recently rolled over 242k miles! That's averaging around 40k miles a year! As you can see I love to drive!
I track the car as much as possible despite the negative affect it has had on a 17 yr old car. As listed below under future plans, a lot of milage and road racing wears out items such as suspension, brakes, transmission and of course rock chips and sandblasting of the paint. Now that my 92, that was bought back from insurance, is now fixed as a track car, my daily car can see a lot less track time to ensure she stays in good health for my everyday commute.
Will soon have a cardomain page for the 92 supercharged track car.
The major mod I've performed is installing a 97 1.8L engine into my 90 1.6L Miata. I have a nice write up I plan to post on Miata.net forums soon. Also pics of the engine bay to show the changes along with pics of the other mods I've done.
Quick list of mods:
97 motor swap
97 brake upgrade
GC coilovers
FM frame rail braces/rear sub-frame brace
KYB AGX 8 way adjustable shocks
Racing Beat front sway bar
stainless steel brake lines
strut tower brace
white style bars (came with car)
EEC spec rear fog lamp
Moss low pro headlights
Future plans:
Install the new low mileage 94 tranny and ACT clutch kit to replace worn out 242k mile 90 tranny. Syncros are going and have had the 5/R rod lockout happen 3 times now.
Fix the Simpson cowl hood that came with the car. Was cracked along with the bumper after an unfortunate incident. 90% fixed, just have to finish repairing the flush hoodpin holes and paint.
Whenever $$$ allows, a Boss Frog double hoop roll bar will replace the style bar and a paint job is in store since the infamous early white paint is begining to come off. Suprisingly the white paint has held up quite well considering the 250k hard miles. Only now is the clear starting to peel in a few spots and only a small patch has flaked down to the metal. A few touch up sprays for now will due till I can afford to re-spray the entire car with a quality paint job.
