Converting the MDX projector to hold a D2S bulb

**this is only if you plan to use a D2S bulb, if you have bought a HID kit with rebased H11 hid bulbs go to page 4 - Installing MDX Projector

Items needed:
-projector from 2004 Acura MDX
-D2S bulb

From the home depot
-Paint isle
1. JB quick weld
2. Thread lock

-Electrical isle
3.1 plastic insulating bushing (x 2)
4.1 x reducing washer (x 2)
5. 1 male adapter (x 2) or any item with a plastic 1 thread

-Hardware isle
6. #6 x flat head Philips screw (x 6) 14 will be needed if you plan to use the bezel)
7. #6-32 x set screw (socket) (x2)
8. For mounting projector - not needed for bulb adapterroymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima

Procedure:
1. Take a file and chamfer the edges around the opening for the bulb, not much material needs to be removed. This is done so that the 4 metal prongs on the base of a Philips bulb will not prevent the bulb from seating properly.

2. place bulb into projector with the insulated wire towards at the six Oclock position, the wire should sit in the bottom groove, line this up the best you can using the knobs on the side of the bulb and the seams on the side of the reflector bowl (or any other marks on bulb and reflector), Mark the top grove in the bulb on the reflector base (left side of bulb Fig 1) as shown in FIG 2.

3. Using a 1/8 drill a hole where the mark was placed, and insert set screw and tighten until it sits below the rim of reflector base, this will insure proper orientation when bulb is in holder. FIG 3 roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima

4. using a pair of needle nose pliers carefully remove the outer edge around the base of the reflector; the plastic is very brittle and will easily break off. FIG 3

5. Screw the 1 plastic insulating bushing onto the 1 male adapters and cut the male adapter 1/8 below the bushing. FIG 4 & 6 roymac's 2000 Nissan Maximaroymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima6. Drill 3 holes in the ring of 1 thread that was cut at the 12,4 & 8 Oclock position with a 1/8 drill bit, (FIG 5) then countersink the holes so when a #6 x flat head philips screw is inserted it will not interfere with the bushing being threaded onto the piece.FIG 6

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima7. Place pieces of tape across the ring (not the cut edge) and place onto the reflector base, do your best to center it so there is an equivalent space between ring and reflector base. FIG 8

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima8. Set the reflector onto the base, making sure the ring stays in position. Mix up some JB weld quick and use to attach the (cut edge of) ring to the projector base, by applying around the whole ring.FIG 9

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima9. After it has hardened place base so the base faces up, cover the entire base with tape and cut out the potion of tape between reflector base and ring. Then use more JB weld quick to attach the ring to the base. FIG 10

10. when the JB weld has cured to putty like consistency remove the tape from the reflector and ring and use a razor to trim excess making sure no JB weld is above the rim when finished.

11. Using a 1/8 drill bit drill into the reflector though the three holes in the ring.

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima12. Cut #6 x flat head Philips screw to around 3/8 (Red circle FIG 11) or enough so that when screwed into the reflector base they wont protrude into the opening for the bulb. And screw them into the ring/base with thread-lock.

roymac's 2000 Nissan Maxima 13. Place bulb into holder, then place 1 x reducing washer onto bulb, thread on 1 plastic insulating bushing. FIG 12
13. Done FIG 13
