It was in October 1990 that the 500E was first presented to the international press at the 'Paris Mondial AutoShow'.Though based on the W124 chassis, it soon became clear that this wasn't any ordinary Mercedes.Build at a special production-line at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, it had wide fenders, alower body, and 16-inch '8-hole' alloys with 225/55 tires on them.But the most impressive was the new 5.0 l. 326hp V8 engine. There was so little room left in the engine compartmentafter the V8 was shoehorned in, that the battery had to move to the trunk.After the European press had driven it, it was praised to heaven, and it became known as 'Super Cab' and 'The Uncrowned King of Brick Roads'.
