Recent drag day (08/10/05). The best car could get was a 15 flat. No PB result for the day

The Torana was purchased by my father in 1977 as a stock Metalic Silver S pack (9/73 build date). This is the way the car stayed until 1991 when the decision was made to rebuild the car as a Salamanca Red XU1. A 202 block was found and X-Rayed. The block was found to be good (3 blocks later) and was then torque plate bored and honed 0.060". Crank was machined so all big end journals where just under max spec for oil clearance and crank was then nitrited. This was done for cooling reasons. A 186 Yella Terra head sits on top with all 6 combustion chambers matched (cc). Internals of the motor consist of starfire rods, ACL flatop pistons with 10.2:1 comp and a custom ground cam. It currently runs triple Stromberg carbs with Pacemaker pipes that have been HPC coated. I have also made a heat shield for the carby and air cooled the intake manifold. The manifold has also been covered with heat wrap so it does not absorb any heat from the exhaust. An Aussie 4 sits behind the motor with a 3.55 Banjo LSD between the wheels. Car has a fully detailed undercarridge. Center caps on wheels where custom made by my father out of solid aluminium to suit original holden caps. They suit CSA Sprintmasters in colour perfectly without being chromed. They bolt on rim from rear to make them harder to remove. Car has completed 120,000kms since rebuild. The car recieved it's nickname from my grandmother when I took her for a drive and she said it sounded like burbling Bertha.

Engine bay showing custom heat shield. Car picked up 20hp at the wheels on chassis dyno after heat shield was added and carby was tuned (27/2/04). Intake manifold has been covered in heat wrap and air cooled via a cold air cooling system which picks it's air up from down next to chrome wind deflector. Car was rolled on dyno again (10/12/04) after new exhaust was fitted and car has picked up a further 17hp at wheels
Custom intake system that I have made using K+N ram pod filter. I have done this to try and get some cold air into motor. I reduced heat shield so intake manifold does not retain so much heat. I have also re-directed the fuel line over rocker cover to keep it away from exhaust heat (2005)
Car now runs triple carbs with K&N filters and roller rockers.

New exhaust fitted and performance increase is great. It is a single 2 1/2 system with a hotdog and a straight through rear muffler with twin outlets. Undercarriage has held up well after 120,000Kms. I hate rainy days. People say why bother clean under my car but I love knowing the car is clean everywhere, not just clean where people can see. Painting the car white under car may seem funny but it highlights the drive train and believe it or not, hides road grime. (2005)

I know it's only in readers cars but I am rapt to be in a top mag.

This is my new car. Well it is 16 years old but it's new compared with my tory. She is a factory 5 speed VN Executive. It was a one owner, full service history car. It came with bonnet protector, headlight protector, front window deflectors, big mudflaps and suspension that made it look like a 4WD. It even had a reverse beeper. It has done low Kms and body/paint are in great condition. It will be the subject of a future project. A forced induction stroker sounds good to me.

On the 10/11/04, I was T-boned by an old chick at a round about. At least she was insured and most importantly, I was not driving the Torana. It was repaired by the same panel shop that done the Torana.
After repair she was beter than before.
She is a nice car to drive, especially being a manual. I would get bored driving an auto. (1/4/05)
I recently picked up a 4 pinion LSD from pick a part for $70. It turned out to be a V8 center with shot peened internals. I was owed a favour from a perfomace shop so I had LSD reconditioned and fitted for free. Pretty cheap LSD upgrade.
