On Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at about 3:30 p.m., my car was completely totalled. I was sitting at a light waiting for it to turn green so I could turn left onto the main road. Not sure if any of you are familiar with the area, but this is a very big intersection. For those of you that live around here, it's the intersection on Rt. 541 right near the Acme, Wal-Mart, Hess gas station, Checkers, Wendy's, etc. Anyway, I took the bypass, and was going to go through the intersection and turn left to go towards TGI Friday's, which is where I work.
Anyway, the light goes green and i start moving. The last thing I remember is seeing a quick blur of a big white van coming right at me. After that I blacked out, and I remember smelling anti-freeze. I can only remember bits and pieces of what happened afterwards, but according to witnesses, here's what happened:
Apparently, our light went green, so I definitely had the right of way. What happened was, this big van ran the red light on the main road, coming at my driver's side. He swerved around two cars in his lane that were stopping for the light to go through the intersection. I was about half way through the intersection and he nailed me at about 60 mph. My car was thrown maybe 20 feet to the right, and i spun around 2 or 3 times.
The witnesses said that almost right after the accident, I got out of my car and started walking around. I don't remember much of this, but this is what happened. I know there was one lady in particular that kept talking to me and telling me to sit down, but I insisted that I was ok. I obviously wasn't because I don't remember telling her this. Like I said, there were only a few small details I rememberd. One of them (which I distinctly remember) is that I told the ambulance guy that I didn't need to go in the ambulance, and that I was fine. I'm such an idot.
Well, they convinced me to go into the ambulance and I really don't remember that either. However, like I said before I rememberd a few small details. There is nothing of the ambulance ride I remember except one thing, which is the guy in the back with me asked me if I was on any medication. I remember telling him the medication I took for my acne. How I managed to tell him this i'm not sure.
So I make it to the hospital, and they x-rayed my ankle because I told them that it hurt, and they did a cat-scan on my head. I don't remember too much of this either. I do remember running into the bathroom at the hospital because I felt sick, but I don't think I actually threw up.
The rest of the night I felt really weird. Time seemed to be going by so incredibly fast, and I could not go to sleep. I was so amazed by what had happened this afternoon, that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I woke up the next morning and my pain was about 5 times worse. My thigh really hurt now, and I had trouble walking. My neck and head also really hurt and I cant turn my head to the right all the way. It hurts to sit some ways, so I have to be careful when I sit down. A lot of people are telling me that I can sue the guy's insurance company and get some decent money, which I may consider doing. Until then, I am a full-time college student that also works full-time, and I am without a car.
Well, since I don't remember actually seeing my car after the accident (although I was around it for about 25 minutes until the ambulance showed up) I got to go and see it today. I couldn't figure out why it was towed to a place that was over a half-hour away from my house. However, when we called the towing place we figured out exactly why. Ironically enough, two cars behind me there was a tow truck. The police told him to just take my car since he was already there and they needed to clear the scene quickly. So I went and saw my poor baby today, and if you look below this paragraph you'll get to see what she looks like.

Here are pictures that I just recently got via email from a guy that was at the accident. He jumped out of his car and started taking pictures.

Here are pictures of the van that hit me. Funny how his van isn't that bad, probably not near totalled. You wouldn't guess from seeing these pics of the van that my car was completely destroyed.

So that's all my pride and joy is now, a big hunk of scrap. It's sad how quickly something you love so much can be detroyed in a split second. I guess you could say that I was lucky in a way, because if that van hit me at that speed about 2 or 3 feet closer to me, I might not be here to share the story.
I hope you guys have enjoyed my website, and i'll keep everyone updated on the situation.
